Does the plastic Isenguard troll kit come with the sword and shield option as well as the spear and shield?

Just got back from buying my troll - after inspection of the pieces I noticed that the detail level is significantly poorer than its metal counterpart particularly the trolls skin. It is still possible to get the same level of detail but its harder I think as I'll have to paint it on. The one good thing about it is the number of pose options available plus the added bonus of spare parts for future projects. Hmmm suppose the good and bads cancel each other out..... anyway rant over off to paint him up.

I agree with you about the poor level; of detail compared to the metal ones, whenever I put them side to side, the plastic ones look awful, the pose options and spare parts are all that made me buy the 2nd and 3rd ones.

I agree that the metals are far better looking than the plastic. However, the ease of assembly is just enough to tip the scales ever so slightly in favor of the plastic. Yet, the amount of work I had to do in cleaning up join lines, mold lines and other imperfections tips the scale back to the metal.

Winner? Metals.

I think the metal trolls are far better than the plastic ones. Jude (my 10 year old son) insisted on getting a metal one after playing a game with one in the local Games Workshop. He ended up paying 22GBP for one on eBay! Still he saved up his pocket money to pay for it so I can't complain.

I just got this troll, really hated that Uruk-Hai spoiler on his helmet.
Took that off and gave him the hammer and shield, spear seems useless to me cause you can only assist similar base sized models, spear also looks good though.

Ther'e the sword instead rather than using a stolen Mordor weapon. being a mordor player, I hate seeing our weapons stolen (then again I converted a Mordor Trolll's club out of 3 Isengard troll spears). In WOTR spears are hand weapons as well, so it makes no diifference, also, you could use the spear for aesthetic purposes rather than gaming ones.

The plastic kit is brilliant. There's so many heads, drums, arms , weapons and armour that if you're reasonably confident at sculpting you can make three trolls for the price of one kit. All the tricky bits are done for you, and the body and legs don't need to be too detailed.

I painted all mine as Mordor Olog-hai, one with the Eye on his shield, another with the eye on the crest of the helmet, and one as a drummer. The shield does look a bit out of place, but Saruman had to get the idea from somewhere....

I think, in this case, magnetizing each piece is worth the while! Making possible all three options, only tricky thing is the paint scheme has to work for all three trolls! Here's a video explaining how to magnetize a mini (a Tyranid Carnifex in the video) if anyone is interested:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Tkw7tt ... &index=458

As for sculpting the other two troll options, why don't you just mold everything? Therefore creating easily three good looking trolls for the price of one! :D

The plastic ISENGARD (not isenguard) troll has less detail than the metal one (but so do all figures) but it's conversion options are better and it is so much easier to put together as well as being lighter. I much prefer big models to be plastic rather than metal.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of a separate Isengard troll. I tend to think of these models as Olog-hai, i.e. Sauron's super-duper improved version of a mountain troll. If I were going to use one for Isengard, I'd try to make it more primitive than the Mordor versions, so a club not a sword or spear, a slightly simpler shield, more cloth/fur wrapped round the body, no helmet, flat plates of metal for armour rather than shaped pieces.

How many fingers do you put on the White Hand, when it's a troll smearing it on (you don't really think a troll would let some poxy Uruk anywhere near it, do you?)?

@DeadLurtz: I thought of cloning the body section myself - I've successfully done it with High Elven shields, & can say that while it can be a bit of work, the results are pretty good.

However! What I wanted to say is that I wish we still had the coin system going, 'cause you deserve a trophy for the link to the magnetized mini video. I never thought of using a MAP system to create modular tabletop pieces. I'm definitely going to make use of it, next time it's a viable option.

No problem and thanks! Sharing with each other is always a good thing. With more options we all have an opportunity to make better and more complete choices!
