My daughter has been getting into Lord of the Rings again. She wanted to try out the table-top game again, so I set up the scenario Maggot Farm. Maggot's three dogs, Greif, Fang, and Wolf (sorry I have the German edition of the scenario, so I am using their names) are left to patrol the farm, while three of Sharky's ruffians try to sneak into Hobbiton.

The board was not quite the right size: 20" by 40". What the Ruffians lost in width, they gained in the shortness of the board. Kathryn could not decide who to be, so she diced it. She was Farmber Maggot.

The dogs could not move on their own until the ruffians were discovered. This happened about when I got to the halfway point. I had a couple chances to shoot at the dogs, but I decided not to risk alerting them to my presence.

Sharky sure trained my guys in hurdles. I was able to jump fences no problem. I was able to move after jumping the fence twice. The dogs failed to jump fences three times! This gave me a head start on getting off the board. Farmer Maggot finally appeared after I ran two guys off the board.

I had two more guys that could make it off. One was stopped by Farmer Maggot, though my daughter had to use a point of Might to go before me. Even so, Maggot failed to wound the ruffian. Fang tried to stop my other guy, but failed to wound me. Since I had won the initiative, I just ran off the board.

My daughter was just plain diced. It was a small scenario, so every dice roll counts. I got my initiative when I needed it. More importantly, I was able to jump fences with impunity. Maybe next time Farmer Maggot will leave the gate open for the dogs.

Nice battle report! I love how these small scenarios can be won by the simplest things. It really makes them a lot of fun.

That is a nice little scenario, just what hobbits nad ruffians were made for. And yes Hilbert's right about the dog's name.
