War or Trek in the Stars ?

When talking to friends, and the topic leads to sci-fi, we usually end up with star wars. It seems no one can make a link with one of the best sc-fi series ever (or don't want to). Although I ones was one of Lucas's biggest fans, I have to say that I deeply prefer fasers over lightsabers, klingons over ewoks and Spock over Obi-Wan. So that leads to my question: what do my fellow one-ringers prefer ?

Although I like both of them a lot, it's Star Wars that gets the vote for me. The original three though, the new ones are nothing in comparison (though still good).

While I used to watch the original series as a kid, I have never found Star Trek to be remotely interesting once I got past the age of 10 - until the latest film. Absolutely loved that movie!

But for me, the best space opera out there is Star Wars Ep IV without a doubt. I never liked any of the other 5 movies much, and... well, I gotta say it, but Han Solo shot first.

Yes, the movie was great, but the script was imo a bit wierd. A young spock gets in love with a young uhura ? Vulcanus is destroyed years before the series ? Romulans are destroyed by a giant sandstorm ? But the scenes were great

Yes they've changed major things but it is my belief that they did this all on purpose so that they have an excuse to be able to make a whole new series of films. They wanted to make more money, came up with a plan to do so and chased it.

Nah, I know it since my kids-years, but never liked it because those people looked too weird with their pig-ears etc...
Some years later I fell in love with Lord of the Rings... wher people have normal ears... hmmm ... :roll:

Never been a fan of Star Wars or Star Trek... Star Wars still gets my favour between the two though (probably cause I like the music and the parody 'Spaceballs').

Star Wars for me. But I do love the Star Trekking Song, we downloaded it somewhere, I use to have it on my device. But no amount of awesome comedy makes it better than Star Wars although at least Trek doesn't have Eewoks or Jar Jar.

Very good point. I have no quarrel with the Ewoks, but Jar Jar does my head in.

You didn't have an option for both, but that would be my vote.

I love the original trilogy of Star Wars (Empire is the best!), but the prequels just didn't do it for me.

With Star Trek, it's mostly good, but there are some episodes that can get a little cheesy, and there are certain of the TV series that I never got into (DS9 and Voyager). I'm currently watching Enterprise all the way through, but I'm only on the second season. I don't have much time for TV watching lately and Grey's Anatomy has taken over my living room thanks to my wife and sister.

, the point is just that you have to choose one. Of ST, I've watched ToS, all the movies and I'm just finishing TNG.

I have this argument on a weekly basis with my girlfriend who prefers Trek. I am pure Star Wars, including the prequels. However, original 3 are much better and yes, HAN FIRED FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never liked Star Trek very much at all as I always thought it was a tad boring compared to Star Wars but Trekkies tend to like the detail, Wars tend to like action.
But for sci fi, it is nowhere near my fave sci fi film....Terminator! Imagine a Darth Terminator. Obi-Wan hinted at it 'he is more machine than man'.......oh the possibilities of cheapo b movies in the future......

Star wars all the way for me, my first star wars was phantom of the menace and i loved it, the original trilogy was EXCELLENT but the other two prequels let me down

That said Christopher Lee and Ewan McGregor were brilliant and were the only capable actors in the whole cast for episodes two and three (samuel l jackson was pretty good too though)

Never really seen an episode of trek (i saw one where patrick stewart was in a desert with two other guys, one of them drunk beer, shot a crystal and died) However i saw the recent film and loved it, the scene where the parachute soldier falls into the mining ray still haunts me!

I don't liek future weapons and such style...I liek ore ancient weapons...The only expection for me is Warhammer40k...
