For me the most under-estimated hero is The Tainted. When I field my Mordor army people start snicker and laugh up until 30 minutes later 1/4 of there army is gone because of him  . I usually send the tainted in and have him attract some enemies toward him into base contact then my trap is sprung. Orcs come from every side trapping the enemies, any enemies that don't die usually get taken out by The Tainted's special rule. So who do you think the most under-estimated hero is in SBG 8)

I agree totally with you my friend... Most friends has him in last plast palce... Our team of friends has him last!!!
I believe he is worthy and also an awesome model...
Anyway I would say he is the best after Witch king and Khamul( I follow Tolkien in nazgul first and second :-D )
He is the most udnerstimated...

Interesting thread...

Perhaps Cirion? 55pts for 3 Might is pretty good.

You'd put him at more points than faramir? Who excels in every way? Dwarf kings are pretty under-estimated but only because Balin is the same points and is better does not a dwarf king useless. If you compare a dwarf king to armoured faramir, the dwarf king has more fight, much more defense, higher courage and only 1 less might. Two dwarf kings cost the same as Murin and Drar and are arguably better!

Anyway Eowyn is definitely my final choice, she is such a "leet" model i once played a game including her, saruman and gimli and out of all 3 she killed the most models simply because of how much my opponent underestimated her!

Thanks for the answers guys, in second place for me is Thranduil. Now I understand he's not the most ignored hero but you don't usually see him on the front lines. Being able to hit with a bow on 2+, also being the only Wood Elf with heavy armour, and being able to cast magic if needed is not bad for 90 points :P . Oh, and did I mention really high courage and really high strength

Thrandril is one of my favourites. One turn of terrifying elves is often all you need to stop that warg rider or goblin army overwhelming you.

I love Grishnahk for his cheap might
I've been a fan of chariot kings for a long time, pair up with a ring wraith and remove enemy hero cavalry from the game.

I think Denethor would be up there. Only 30 points for solid F,Def and courage. With spear support has 3 attacks. Let downs are no might and has to take a courage test every turn to see if he has gone mad. Always fun to use as well.

Another candidate could be Durburz; at only 60pts he's very cheap, yet he has a good amount of Might, Will, and Fate, and a 12in Standfast.

what about grima, here in essex he seems really underused.
the ability to force your opponent to use extra might is really useful.
underestimated over here, maybe else where he is more often used.

I like Grima as well. However, you have to take Saruman with him, so it ends up being quite expensive.

That's the main problem but if you have chose first Saruman it's good to remove some Uruks or orcs for him 8)

I'd say Gothmog (no irony please) most oponants think his fight, courage, attacks, wounds and defence are lower than it is in my experience.

Grima is not under estimated, it is isengard who are under used in my opinion.

Gothmog, well I dont like using him, he eats enemy troops but so do my black guard uraks. Gothmog vs most heroes is an epic loss.

Gothmog is certainly not underestimated, especially at high points.
Who is, IMO, is The Undying. You get 6 xtra Will, which can also be used as fate for 10pts xtra. Add Arcana Leech on top of that.
Also Sharku does pretty well for leading a mob of warg riders (3M)

I love the undying, you practically get the necromancers special rule for free and he is half the price.

I would say the most underestimated hero has got to be Beregond. He's epic with a bow, plus if he's on horse back he can get two attacks, all for only 31 points. With Bodyguard and good defence he's likely to last a good while as well.

Beregond isn't as underestimated as you think, alot of high end players use him, i personally think every good army should have cheap heroes like beregond available to them.

Gildor is also very underrated, he is one of the few elf heroes i would feel comrfortable using the 2h weapon with, solely because he can immobilize his foes first, then chomp them up with a +1 modifier!

+1 Maybe not the MOST, but still a great bargain that I didn't see played often.
