I am preparing to paint a Mordor army for SBG and am looking at color schemes. I really like the blue/gray skin of the guys in this pic from the GW site:

Has anyone else tried this paint scheme? Do you think it would work with some variations for orcs also? Maybe a little greener for the orcs? Thoughts?

Well, I have already tried this on a couple of (morrannon) orcs, but I like it that all my orcs have a different colour of face (doesn't have to be a lot different), because that just what makes them so great. They're all different but have something... Common

My brother painted his Mordor uruk-hai using this paint scheme, and I think it looks great. As for orcs, I think it would look really good on a captain especially, but it would probably look good on any orc, IMO. My brother actually painted two of his Mordor orcs, and Durburz, using pretty much the same color scheme. I have to say, it looks really good, especially on Durburz. If you want, I could probably post some pics of them.

Just looking at the figures there is more brown in them than you realise. It looks to me like basecoats of a mix Scorched Brown / Codex Grey and built up by adding more Codex. A finish by adding Fotress Grey perhaps. Then it looks like a wash / glaze of Badab Black to tone everything down and create more of the 'grey' look.
You could play around with this a bit by using some light browns to highlight and add the black wash to finish.

I think Shadow Grey could be essential to get the skin like GW's...
Pure Shadow Grey to start with, and add additional amounts of Bleached Bone, Rotting Flesh, or Fortress Grey or even skull white for the highlights.
In the end, darken down with several fine layers of Badab Black, or really thinned down Chaos Black, with an eventual small bit of Scorched Brown in if you like...

I guess that's the way I would try... (I'd take the Bleached Bone or Rotting Flesh and add a little skull white at the final stage to highlight)

I'm also going to start painting some mordor uruk hai models.
I've found a (little) painting guide in the 'return of the king' journey book.
Anybody else has a painting guide for mordor uruk hai?

In the Tomes of Wisdom there's one for the Fighting Uruk-hai and one for Mordor Orcs, but none for Mordor Uruk-hai.

But why don't you make one and submit it to the Tomes?

I have used this scheme but I used Vallejo paints (Black Grey, Panzer Grey and added flesh tones to lighten the mix). For GW piants I would use A mix of Shadow Grey and chaos black and add shadow grey to lighten and add either rotting flesh or bleached bone to lighten for highlights. The armour is a matter of using scorched brown and vomit brown/snakebite leather/graveyard earth depending on taste. I will dig out my Mordor Uruks and post a pic up. And good luck! I love the Mordor Uruk-hai!

Positively nasty looking pair of badasses you got there. Neat bases too. Good job!
