Hey guys,

I was doing a bit of random browsing of LARP type stuff and fantasy props etc when I came across this site: MacQueen Pipes. I thought that this site was bound to have been mentioned here before but a search turned up nothing so I thought I'd post it. Now, whether you're a smoker or not you've got to appreciate these beauties! Even if I were to never pack the pipe and smoke it (which would be a lamentable shame) I'd still like to have one (or three) on a shelf next to Anduril et al. Some of the designs are very similar to the ones smoked in the films, does anyone know who made the ones for the films? There are lots on the web but they look a bit tacky next to the MacQueen pipes. I really like the Dwarf and Ranger, and the long stemmed churchwardens are beautiful too.

I did a quick google image search for comparison, and by gum do they smoke a whole lot in the trilogy!

I'm not promoting smoking or anything here, I'm just appreciating them as collector's pieces and works of art. What do you guys think :)?

Eorling.

Well as the first and only person to reply, I think they are good. I don't smoke or anything, and I hate the look of cigarettes. I prefer the good old pipes so I must agree on this one

They do look very close, but the churhwarders don't seem to be curved enough. The outdoors man knife looks nice too.

Maybe he could be a dwarf instead. Not fat, but still short and stocky :-D
Those pipes look really nice

The PJ hobbit in the WHWMH does look great, only two made apparently. I have since baught a nice pipe much like these, but from a british maker here. Far cheaper and it smokes wonderfully. I've read in many place that although the MacQueen pipes are good, they can take months to get one to you. Seeing as there was a much cheaper and more reliable UK source I went with it, and it is now by far my favourite pipe. At the moment I'm smoking Gawith Hoggarths Cherry Vanilla blend and a Summer Punch house blend from Gauntley's of Nottingham - both very nice indeed and wonderful out on the balcony with a cuppa in the evenings.

In fact I reviewed the pipe here if anyone is interested. Just be careful when breaking it in, as detailed in my review. I think that as pipes go, mine is about as rustic and hobbitish as I could ask for :).

Funny about that, those names sound like herbal tea flavours :-D

Yes they do hehe, they are aromatic blends and are meant to taste and smell sweet. Usually pipe smokers either smoke aromatics or straight tobacco belnds, a few smoke both. I certainly like aromatics. In fact I ordered a sampler pack of Middle Earth tobacco from a shop called Just For Him the other day, this includes Old Toby, Longbottom Leaf, A Shortcut to Mushrooms, The Ruins of Isengard and Treebeard :D! Apparently they are excellent blends. I will review them here when I get the chace.

oooo sounds interesting, some cool aromas. Doubt my mum would approve me of smoking a pipe though :P Give us a review of each one, look forward to the results!

Yes that's understandable, I do try to moderate it as a treat - no a habit you want to get into really. I supposed thats the key word "habit." Indulging every so often is fine. I'm really looking forward to getting the pack, only 1/4 Oz of each so about four bowls of tobacco of each blend, but that's enough to review and decide which I like best. I'm not looking forward to the import duty though.....
