Thanks for the kind comments, guys!

@Bart: I was really smart years ago when I undercoated him white and put him back into the box. Today I would have used black since I ran out of white spray some time ago and haven't gotten around to buying more. Would have been a real pain to paint white horse over black.

@hero fo gondor: I painted the face using GW and Vallejo colours. Tallarn Flesh basecoat as I always do, then couple of careful washes of Ogryn Flesh on the recesses (not splashing the wash all around, just making sure there is good shading everywhere). Then Dwarf Flesh (Vallejo) everywhere but the recesses and a few highlight layers by adding Bleached Bone (Vallejo) to Dwarf Flesh until it was pure Bleached Bone at the highest points. Very thin paints all the time.

Last time I joined in with the painting challenge I really enjoyed painting Gandalf. I've been waiting to paint Theoden for a long time so hopefully I'll finish him on time.

How can you say something nasty like that?! :-X
Hehe, nah, thanks for pointing it out. I have that often with figures I paint, sometimes I think it looks good, and once I see it on picture, it looks totally odd. And untill this day, I've always been too lazy afterwards to correct it.
From now on, I will make corrections once it's roughly finished. And in fact, I meant to do this with this one (well, the horse and face, not his eyes... but anyway...) cause I didn't get the right imagination where I was going to as long as not everything was painted. (sometimes you only see the effect once another part is done)

I've checked that eye again, and you're totally right. In fact, I'll try to blame the sculpt. The eye is really popping out (I should have seen it before the undercoat to cut it off.. auch)
I'll try to find a way to fix it without causing more harm then needed...

Thanks mate! :)

Great job to everyone so far! Theoden is looking good so far Bart and the finished Eomer looks brilliant BW.

I haven't been able to make a start on mine as of yet as the last week I've been busily trying to make corrections to my assignments due in on Monday. But hopefully I'll be able to get things underway once it's all handed in!

The leather armour looks really convincing. Very stylishly highlighted.

Eomer's armour is very impressive; I may have to go back and repaint mine now!

The red leather armour looks absolutely terrific! Outstanding paintjob and choice of colours!
Well done!

Since I have recently painting the same model I'll be trying something different - nmm for the first time. We'll see how this turns out...

Edit: all of the easier stuff is done. Now to paint the tricksy gold trim.

Well, here we go. Probably will not be able to finish these, but here are some WIP. The pics do not do it justice, i will have to get better ones when and if I finish.
Primed and then a couple of colors.
Update-this is a link from my group blog which has a better pic
Update II-finished with foot version-mounted and horse still have work to be done.
Can we pin a topic on how to photograph these bad boys? Can not find one :(

Here's my finished entry:

It's a little rough around the edges as I've rushed to finish it. But I'm pleased with how the nmm turned out.
