 Which arm was missing on the shade???!! They all look perfect. I like the Sauron, a very classic take, but done well so it looks good in my oppinion. :)
Good job on the blending on the tainted, it has a very satisfying 'spooky' feel to it.
From what I can see the balrog arm is good as well, though it will be easier to see once it's all painted up.
overall good job getting back into the groove and painting something after all this time, feels good doesn't it? 8) :yay:

It had done that Balrog more good if you had brightened up his mug, to improve his chances for the next mating season.
Apart from that: a neat job, Dave! 8)

Very nice work on the Tainted there in particular! Seeing the quality of the arms on the balrog and shade, I have to wonder why you dont just sculpt your own to get some truly unique poses.

The top one with the sleeve hanging down.

I could do that I guess. My thinking is that I was trying to fix the minis so no-one would notice they have been fixed, if you see what I mean. I can see a picture in the GW catalog for example and replicate it pretty well. Didn't think to alter the pose at all.

Yep. I have noticed he has been following my other Balrog around quite extensively. :)

I also forgot to post my AotD banner bearer. This was to be my entry into the sculpting/conversion category for last summers awards. It is a conversion of Natarns excellent foot banner bearer which I tinkered with earlier in this thread.

The horse was a plastic warhammer skeleton. I just bulked it out with muscles, rotting skin and ragged cloth.

Well after being distracted by building the 40K drop pod that my lad got for Christmas, I finished off the Dark Marshal. Another ebay bargain. I had to sculpt in the right side of the horse and the sword arm of the mounted figure as they were all missing.

Great painting Dave (and sculpting, I wouldn't know the sculpted parts were sculpted if you hadn't said anything). I really like the armour and the eyes on the horse.

Stalwart followers of this thread may recall a dragon I had on the workbench. It was originally free with a £1.99 part works magazine called Beast & Beings.

Image

It is resin cast, and I felt it would fit well into the LotR world with a little tweaking. I removed the egg, repositioned the wings wider apart, put it on a regular dragon sized base and added some extra rocks.

Image

I painted it up over the last couple of days. Golden-red with a belly encrusted with jewels.

Now I'm thinking the base is a little plain, so I may add scattered treasure.

Wow very nice! I guess you won't be purchasing a Smaug model once the Hobbit is released in theaters.

That's a great model and your paint job makes it even better. I'm not to keen on the jewels in the chest, although in the Hobbit it does say Smaug had a waistcoat of gems (or something to that extent).
Keep it up.

UKFB you're a sculptur right and you have cast metal models of your sculpts? Would it be possible if you can write an article on casting your own metal models please? I'm curious to how you do it and plus I may want to try my hand at this in the far distant future someday.

I agree with you that the base looks a little plain at the moment, but some treasure or foliage should fix that nicely. Other than that, brilliant mini Dave. The painting is great, the conversion is well excecuted and the jewels look good.

Very nice! Great job on the choice of colours! They fit him perfectly!
Nice idea with the jewels, although I'm not totally crazy about the result (sorry)...

But I must also say... I'm a bit disappointed though... I mean... A work in progress with "dragonic efforts" in it's title, from you, a very dedicated and meanwhile wellknown and very talented sculptor... I mean... I had all my hopes and enthousiasm on seeing you starting to sculpt a dragon to all our hearts... hehehe...
Ah, some day you should consider it! :P

Great job on this one though! :D
