I doubt it, GW are too busy bringing out the models for WotR.

Hmm I notice that the more recent topics have been repeated (e.g. siege weapons, easterlings etc).
Anyway, Easterlings only have F3 which is a big problem against many F4 armies. They are quite similar to WOMT actually, except that they have pikes (Gondor can ally in men-at-arms though). I guess Khamul would be an obvious hero to lead them.

Is there a specific leader of this thread? Or can anyone suggest a topic now? :P

i use a combonation of easterlings and harad
w=easterling warriors
h=harad warriors armed w/ spears
p=pike armed easterlings

www
hhhh
pppp
this helps decrease the cost but still give one three attacks
if enemy archers shoot at the warriors of harad they will have to roll an in the way roll because the easterling warriors are in their way thus risking hitting their own men thus when this formation is in combat good armies can not shoot it. :twisted:

How about a discussion on what the best defence for Good is and what the best defence for evil is?

I put forward that D5 is optimum for good in the tournament world as it still needs 6s from shooting but makes the abundance of S4 in evil armies worthless as they would be wounded by S3 just as easily.

I would on the reverse say that D6 is best for evil as many good armies have access to some form of S3 shooting so the shooting aspect is neutered there but good lack a high amount of S4 troops (khazad are the best frontliners).

I would like to hear anybody else's thoughts on this so long as they are intelligently described :)

I simply think dwarves with shields are the best as D7 needs pretty much 6s at least except for BG and uruk captains (and obviously monsters etc.) and orc bows and normal bows will need 6s followed by 4s, that's what makes them great.

So for good, best defensive troops are dwarf warriors with shields, Khazads, and GotFC. The best common defence, as Newbie said, would be D5 prob, with good, it's best to stick to the odd numbered defence values.

For evil, I would say banging out on D5 would be the best as evil have very few decently priced D6 troops (Easterlings the exception). I would rather have 2 D5 goblins than 1 D6 uruk-hai for the same points even if the enemy did have elven or dwarven archery. Elven archery is the only real flaw here but if you have hordes it shouldn't be a problem really. Most dwarf players also prefer to use rangers over normal bowmen which counters that. And then finally CG which can be problematic but still cost 10 points (and are often used as cavalry archers so that counters that). Hordes of D5 also counter the super-elite good armies and two handed weapons which are used frequently by elves against uruks. And it would also counter the classic tournament army of full KG and Dain or Gimli. Just MO, though.

When I use my hornblower in a game, it usualy wins the game for me, becaus I always roll TERRIBLE for heroes once my force is broken, he is often found behind the main force or on the farthest edge of the table. As for dealing with enemy hornblowers, I dont know since I have never played against anyone with one.

In my experience, trolls aren't worth their points. They're pretty vulnerable to archery and in close combat they easily go down under the attention of an uber-Hero or lots of troops.

I know this guy is fairly new to the SBG scene. So who has used him yet and who has faced him? Does anyone here have any info to offer on this monster in terms of strategies and tactics?
DOES ANYONE!?

Seeing how dead this thread has become, or maybe because Cave Drake is too recent and the rules for it isn't known and widespread, I'll try this one more time. If a failure again, someone else could take over or this can be left as the last post for the updated index.

Rangers? A very broad subject, so I'll focus on using Rangers with Gondor.

I always take Rangers of Gondor instead of Archers of Minas Tirith if possible. The shoot better and they have a higher Fight; although they have a lower Defence this will not normally have any effect. In combat, try to mix you Warriors of Minas Tirith with yout Rangers in order to take advantage of their Fight 4. Spears are a decent option, and a good way to use left over points.

Defence 4 usually dosen't make a difference? I would sday it does against all that evil archery. Rangers are very solid, though IMO. Good shots for only 8 points, very good to include. Spears are also a good option giving you back line that can shoot as well though it does kinda waste their good FV.

to wage in as a new boy, rangers to me look brilliant and i would use them as a second line equiped with spears

my thinking here is you line them behind your standard shieldwall, they shoot away while thier low defence is covered by the high defence shields infront.

then when it comes to the fight the enemy will grind away a bit and if they do get through are faced with the F4 rangers, who will hopefully be able to cope.

im clueless on the use of grey company and RotN but yeah theres my 2 cents, and probably the most simple tactic possible
