Imrail - I will be adding the Mahud and I'm to work out the reins in the ears. I will have to see how things fit and work, but at least there will be something.

I have noticed I am a week or so away from my one year anniversary since starting this. I did say from the off it will be slowtime but this is a bit ridiculous I must admit.
At present all the cloth is done on the howdah and I am working on the final sections of wood and rope then I can join it all together. I have some rigging to go on so I will be after advice again about the colour.
However that is for future, lets see if I can have it together before the 23rd Nov ??? That would be at least something...

Here we are then, a year to the day after I started, the Mumak is all but finished. I have some rigging to put on, but this is the final painted item.
It is all glued in place and ready for the diorama, once I get the rigging done and the small matter of several Haradrim to put on...
Hope you like it and as always comments good and bad always welcome :D

Thanks for your comments fellas.
Before I work on the rigging I'm now working on one of the more pivotal points of the diorama, the impaled rider, updates to follow...

A bit disapointing that many don't like it, after the initial vote of confidence. Anyway I like it and like I said at the beginning, I wanted to take this model down a line no-one had done before.
I will carry one regardless and hope the finished diorama will meet approval.

I can take a guess on why many people don't like it...since no one has explained in detail. While being a cool conversion idea, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The tusk of the Mumak is likely not to be sharp; like the tusk of an elephant, it probably goes through a lot of weathering and wearing in the animal's life. That being said, the chance of the tusk's small surface area hitting a rider dead on centre is very very unlikely. Since the force of the Mumak's charge is greater than the Rider of Rohan's counter charge, in terms of physics the Mumak would be pushing the Rohirrim out of its way.
The tusk is huge and the rider can easily swing around. Even IF the tusk managed to hit him, there is a greater chance of hitting the horse, and if it hit the rider, I'd imagine that it would knock the rider flying (as seen in the movie), since the tusk isn't exactly "sharp".

A very creative and well executed conversion idea, but that is the reason why I don't like it.

Ah well, i just would say carry on as u like. It's u after all that should like the model. :) I like it, even tough what lord of Edoras says might be correct. But i think the nice thing about being creative is that u may use fantasy and surpass the real world. Things that aren't real can have succes look at harry potter or super heroes.

I like it very much it is very nice painted and it's wel executed. I also like the idea it gives the mumak something extra to make it look even more dangerous.

Can't wait to see the end result.

Lord of Edoras - In responce I would say in my job I have seen some things which defy physics, including what I have found people impaled on (I kid you not)
However, that is a different subject and this is not about being true to life - let's face it the whole LOTR is fantasy, so why let a thing like realism get in the way !!!
As for the next part, I will work on the Mahud. I've also got to work out the rigging, firstly how to attach it to make it look right with proper knotting and secondly how to go about painting it. The rigging is far too light and needs some TLC so it will blend in with the rest.

Haha, in the time that I'm gone there's been only one update. Still very glad to see your still busy on the project though, still very, very promising. Really like the impaled rider, think it looks good ;)
And I would be careful with the blood, if you don't create it good enough it will look weird and off.

Couldn't agree with you more, it could spoil everything. I am leaving it until the end as I intend to seal the whole thing with varnish, Testors etc and then apply the blood.
The reason for this is the blood will be made up with PVA so that will afford it some protection. For any dry patches I decide on then I will protect and seal them as above.
Either way I am going to have to do some experiments to see what I'm happy with. As there will be a bit of blood I want to make a job lot some there is no great fluctuation with the colours.
Furthermore though, I want to get this moved further alond and finishing the Mumak and all the Haradrim on board will be a great leap forward.
Unfortunately my life is way too busy to spend the time I wish I could spend on it.
If anyone has any suggestions on what I may need to address I would be delighted to here from you.
