My favourite aspect of a Rohan army is knowing that they could actually fight pretty much anyone. My conscience starts nagging my if I fight Uruk-hai with Gondor, but Rohan can fight Isengard, Mordor, Harad, Easterlings, and even Goblins if you stretch it.

Thematically.

So its
Gondor - 9
Rohan - 5
Elves - 5
Dwarves - 2nd
Mordor - 1st
Isengard - 7
Moria - 9
Fallen Realms - 6
Angmar - 4

So if we finish this poll today it would be

1st Mordor
2nd Dwarves
3rd Gondor and Moria
5th Isengard
6th Fallen Realms
7th Rohan and Elves
9th Angmar

I think between 2nd to 6th they are all evenly matched anyways. Mordor is the big winner and Rohan, Elves and Angmar are big losers. I like Elf Hero's but their formations are too expensive. Not much selection for Angmar. Their only ranged are Orc's with Bows. Spectral Host can be formidable but I haven't figured them out yet.

I personally think Isengard should be below Fallen Realms; the standard Isengard formation is too expensive, and they have a limited Epic Hero selection.

3rd gondore

4th mordor
5th rohan
6th isengaurd
7th elves
8th fallen realms
9th angmar

Perhaps we will get another round, though I think that this list is a pretty fair reflection as it is.

Except for the position of the Fallen Realms. Betrayer, Khamul, Knight of Umbar fit thematically, 30pt Def 7 infantry formations. Archers with poisoned arrows, Corair Arbalesters. They even have a pretty good dueler, by Evil standards. I'd have them up in second.

why not continue the poll, but now vote on the best faction WITH ALLIES (limit of 1 ally, or else there will be so many options)

eg: mordor - moria (mordor with druzhag and blackshields)

or elves - rohan....

if that gets done then you can start talking about adding in another ally, which seems like a good idea as then you can easily see good combos and think about what else you could add to them

I don't think including allies will work, there would be too many options.

However, everyone may get one more vote. This poll will run for another three days, and then we'll have the final results.

My vote is for Gondor, due to their powerful Heroes and reliable formations. I did consider Moria, but they lack Epic Heroes and Legendary formations.

Gondor - 3rd
Rohan - 5
Elves - 5
Dwarves - 2nd
Mordor - 1st
Isengard - 7
Moria - 9
Fallen Realms - 6
Angmar - 4

cheap troops the only giant in the game (when it comes out) and a hero killing mishean in the cave drake and (in my oppinion) one if not the best wizard/shamon in druzhag. worthy of 4th ( or higher)

The Cave Drake is actually pretty bad at duelling enemy Heroes, as it only has F6.

ya so if a formation attacks the cave drake, and the hero has ES, then your drake is dead (but done forget that the drake gets the +1 fight for calling the duel)
although, if you had 2 cave drakes and durburz and buhrdur (awesome combo), then your opponent wont be able to deal with all the dueling heros around, and so then the drakes would REALLY shine

im still gonna get one cause its cool (and for sbg), goes well with my dragon, and cause you cant make assumptions just yet, as you havnt tried him out (he looks bad but thats just on paper....)

anyway, to the subject at hand

im gonna not give a vote, as im a bit biased to moria right now.

anyway, id really like to see this done with allies, sure you will see lots of options, but you will also see certain themes going around. ie high D armies like dwarves like to get fast allies, and things like this can be really useful to know and may even surprise you and help think of new tactics. besides, whats wrong with trying it? the worst that can happen is that nothing happens or people just look at it and say "whatever". may as well try it and see if you can learn anything (new ideas, thus new game styles, thus a more fun game)

and seeing as we have started another round of voting, we can do it afterwards

I don't think a poll about armies that people do not actually take (ie with extra restrictions) is all that meaningful. I'm sure we all agree it's possible to make a bad list with any of the factions, allies or not? So the real question is which are the lists that people will gravitate to to make the harder armies, when they are really trying. Allies are only 25% of the army total, armies that get what they really want/need as core choices are always going to be better.

And since I have another vote, Fallen Realms +1 - rationale is already provided in my previous post.

Well the new Errata is out and now heros with overlord can use might on formations that dont even have might/leader, so now the lack of ES heros is gone, cause i have a friggn STONE GIANT WITH F10 THAT WILL DUEL TO DEATH!! (can you 'hear' my excitement there? :P)

so +1 to moria

(although with the overlord thing... imagine a mumak with heroic move... imba)

If I could change one thing, I'd put Elves last behind Angmar. What would everyone else do?
