It is time!

This year Awards are finally up and running, and you can now start to submit entries for the all the Open and Beginner categories, and for the special Mastercraftsman category.

The submissions will be accepted during the whole month of August (don't leave it for the last day, though!) with voting taking place in the following first two weeks of September.

Check all the One Ring Awards rules before you enter.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Good Luck everyone! Let's make this a really successful season with lots of entries.

Remember, there are prizes for 1st and 2nd place in each category - a beautiful trophy for the winner and a Masterclass Basing Kit from Spectre Hobbies for the runner up.

...one question. Last year, didn't we have two weeks to submit and two weeks to vote? On the submission page it says we have till the 1st of september to submit, which is a long ways away.

That is correct. You can enter during the whole month of August. Voting will take place in the following first two weeks of September.

Due to the recent hacking and software upgrades, the Awards will have to be re-schedulled.

All the rules are to be kept, only the deadline to submit the entries will have to be changed. It will depend on how quick Daggy can fix the whole gallery and competition systems, so we can't really give a date at this moment.

This means that everyone will possibly have a couple of extra weeks to finish their works. The new deadline will be announced as soon as we have more information.

Thanks for understanding.

None has been able to.
It's all still in progress, it takes a lot of time and patience to get it working again (successfully re-programmed).
Alan is doing the best he can to get everything back online as soon as possible, so we all have to be patient just a little longer :)

But no worries, there will be plenty of time again to enter etc as soon everything is back! :D

When the awards will have to restard... Maybe you could change the system a bit... Just a bit... I mean a different categor for converting and sculpting, you see, both are totally different disciplins of wargaming.
I didn't knew where to enter this idea... So I thought to post it here.
But it's just an idea after all.

Its actually a very valid point, and we could have different categories for diorama and terrain. They are different things.

But...

We had different categories for those in the past, and very few entries in each of them, so we decided to join the most similar categories and try to get as many entries as possible. There's no point in having lots of categories, and then only 1 or 2 entries in each.

The main problem we have for the OR Awards is the low number of entrants for these categories. Yes, sculpting is a bit different to converting. And some conversions are a lot more complex than just a head swap too.

But we are lucky to get 5 entrants in this category, despite the fact we have over 4500 members and everyone has a whole year to do something towards the competition. The same goes for the terrain and diorama categories. So if we split them again, then we'll be lucky to get even one entry in the sculpting category, and about the same in dioramas.

And last year we had two entrants in the beginner category - two! And that covers all aspects of the hobby!

I believe the path to becoming a good sculptor lies initially in conversions. Head swaps and arm reposing require minimum skill with the putty, but then you can move on to add cloaks, plate/chainmail armour, accessories etc as the skills develop. Before long, cut and shut jobs can be employed for creating mounted figures and you'll reach the point where there is more of your own work on the model than the original figure! Eventually you get to the stage where you can try something from scratch. It's an evolutionary process.

So, just getting back into things here...

Are the awards still on? Is there a new submittion date? Has it all already happened and if so, where is the thread to the results?

I understand there has been major challenges and changes since I've been on hiatus... kudos to all admins working hard on our behalf... anything I can do to help at all?? I mentioned to Dagor previously that I have Network Admin background... so if there is something let me know.

Cheers...
