Recently I posted a few minis on CMoN to see what other people thought of them... however, checking the scores, I'm quite disappointed as they were quite lower than I had expected. I've heard that some people just go on CMoN and give low ratings regardless of the picture, but I'd like to know from you, the forum I trust, whether the scores reflect accurately my work...

I must warn you though, I intend to enter the following pictures in the ORA, so if you'd rather not see my entries, please don't look!

[spoiler]

Current score on CMoN: 5.1

Current score on CMoN: 6.1

If you have any constructive criticism, please post :)

Hi Ranger :),

I'm definately still on the path to good paitning myself so I want to make sure my tone isn't seen and patronising or anything :). But if I may offer some feedback, I think the scores are a tad low, but not far off the mark when measured against GD winners etc. Don't get me wrong, they are very good, I wish I played against armies that looked like that 8). I haven't done any NMM, but it seems to me that until you reach a certain level with it your efforts will go largely unnoticed by viewers. It's one of those all or nothing things, if it isn't near to perfect it just doesn't work when measured against the work of the experts. I don't share this view, it's clear to me that you are learning alot about NMM, but it isn't quite yet at the level of a 6.5 or 7 by CMoN standards.

The trebuchet is nicely constructed and you've clearly gone to alot of effort with it, but it's alot like the GW one which I have heard many a gripe about. I still would have rated it higher than they did because you've built it very well, but for those higher scores maybe you could look into creating more realistic designs based on the films and real world trebs which are graceful and intricate machines.

Remember that CMoN standards are very high. A score of 8 is unnataible for most people without huge amounts of practice or natural talent. The most important thing is that you learn with each model you make, and that you judge it by your own standards first and reflect on ways that you can improve your skill.

Great job though, you will get NMM right soon enough I'm sure, just don't get put off by the steep learning curve :).

Will.

ditto eorling.

however, personallyi would have rated them higher. IMO that guard looks excellent, esp. the eyes. don't be put of by ratings on CMoN, i've seen some clear 9s and even possible 10s with ratings lower than 7. sometimes they can be a VERY innacurate representation of the miniature. but as eorling said, they have some of the best painters in the world on that site.

as the trebuchet has obviously been based on the GW model, so can be compared to that, it has been made to a very high standard; its basically flawless.

overall, great work RoG, and best of luck in ORA!

The standard is a touch on the high side. I've posted some photos and this is my best at 6.6 from 52 votes
And I didn't think it was that bad !!!

the white could use a light brown wash to give some depth
the painful truth is to put minis on cmon you have to be pretty awesome to get good ratings

Gadalf, I have to say how impressed I am with that horse. It's a nice change from the sea of white brown and black monocromatic nonsense you see from 'Eavy Metal.

Major Kudos for painting a horse that actually looks like a horse in the real world. I am going to try to paint my entire force with as many colour variations as I can. Have several cookies 8).

Will.

Thanks for the replies and apologies Ranger of Gondor, didn't mean to highjack your thread I was just trying to point out the standard that seems to be required on cmon.

Good luck
