It's been done before. There was an article about it long time ago on the GW site. Basically, with 700 points choose a fellowship of 9 heroes. In the original GW article, you had to choose either Frodo, Bilbo, or Isildur to be your ringbearer. Gandalf would come too if it was Frodo or Bilbo, and Elrond would come if it was Isildur. You choose other models so that you have 9 in 700 points, and play the normal scenarios from the journey books, using the new heroes instead of the normal ones.

IMHO, the Fellowship campaign from BGiME was the best. My friend and I were about to give it a whirl before he dropped out of the hobby and sold all of his issues....

Yeah, I saw that, it was very well thought through but it was probably the best choice to take the original fellowship anyway.
