What color do you guys paint the rims of your bases? GW suggests Goblin Green. Do most of you use that or do you use something different?
Do you use different colors for Orcs than say, Rohan? Or do you paint them all the same? Thanks in advance.

Aye just check that thread there's lots of opinions in there for you.

But the answer to part of your question is no most people don't paint the rim of their base goblin green. Whilst many do, I think there are a LOT more people who leave it black or paint it some shade of brown (whether it be bestial, scorched, dark flesh etc.).

I do mine based on the army (or special model):

Mordor / Dol Guldur - Chaos Black
Isengard - Scorched Brown
Harad - Snakebite Leather
Mirkwood / Lothlorien Elves - Catchen (sp) Green
Rohan - Beastial Brown
Fellowship - Shadow Gray
Wizards - Boltgun Metal (tried Mithril Silver but too bright)

I haven't started any other army yet so haven't decided on other colors, but Dwarf and Goblin are coming soon so...

I have different collor dependeng on force, and I paint a different shade on heroes and troops, to get one more way to easily separate them.

I use either Scorched Brown, Vermin Brown, or just leave them black because I don't think it makes that much difference to be honest.

I use black. I find that it makes the mini's and the base stand out more, sort of like black lining. If you are painting your basers a certain colour to match the board/terrain, it won't work all the time. Eventually you'll play on a different board and it will not match, just like any other colour. I think that if it is not going to match it might as well be black.

For metals I always go with whatever looks best.
But the minis for playing i keep armys the same color. Frodo always gets a gold rim with the red mordor lettering.

Cause i just got an invisible Frodo... and would LOVE to do such a base.

BTT I painhoted my bases green before (actually Camo green..) but i though that it looked sorta unreal and also that such a light color over black often let the black come through.. so Brown now

Put a thin layer of green stuff round the outside and make sure its really smooth.
Wait till its quite firm like 15-20mins and get a soft felt tip pen and write the script over the putty.
Then take a small tool and press in the writing.

I'll post pics next week when I'm at home. It could look really good but i rushed mine.
I would advise you get some practice on some spare bases before you try it on your proper figures.

first i put on a layer of sand. paint the whole base black. dry brush a couple shades of grey.

I've only seen a few minis painted with Goblin Green rims, but they are mostly old Warhammer models. I've always painted the rims on my bases Dark Angel Green. I don't know why, I guess I just wanted to be different...

I paint all of the rims of my bases plain old Bestial Brown. Or Calthan Brown if I'm out of Bestial Brown.

I have some older miniatures that had Goblin Green rims, black rims, Grey rims, or Vermin Brown rims, but most of these have been repainted with Bestial Brown.

Yup, bestial brown every time for me except on dwarves and gobbos which I would use grey (but I don't really collect them).
