I'm planning on repainting all of my dwarf warriors. For my rangers I decided to stick to brown, I just couldn't picture an old grey haired dwarf being a ranger, but since I've got two boxes of dwarf warriors I wanted to add some more variation when it comes to their hair. In addition to the normal brown and grey I also wanted to add a few more colours like the orange hair I've seen on a few dwarves. My problem is that I'm not sure how to do it.
Has anyone done this before or have any ideas on how to paint realistic looking orange hair?

If you can find an article about painting Warhammer Dwarf Slayers somewhere then that might be helpful. I'm not sure if their orange hair looks that realistic though...

A painting article for Murin and Drar on this website also has some info about painting orange hair:

Hope this helps. :)

I basecoat the hair it with bleached bone and then painted over with bestial brown. This makes a darker orange than in the article above. You could perhaps use both these methods for even more variety.

I've used scorched brown -> bestial brown -> fiery orange and it works really well. You just need the smallest bit of the orange to pull it off.
If you do a little too much, a bit of devlan mud wash will tone it down a little.

Miguel's (MacGothmog) article on painting a Dwarf king had the best way of painting *auburn* hair I've ever seen. It's right here:

You obviously don't have to do it the same as this, but I think it's very helpful personally ie which colours etc.
