I've been a big SBGamer since the Two Towers set came out, post pretty often on the SBG forum pages, and have been critical of the new game system but today I broke down and bought the WotR rulebook.

I must say, so far I like it! Some rules (like spellcasting) seem like they could be abused, and I'm not sure that I like every formation of common infantry/cavalry models costing the same for each faction...

I'll be trying a game soon- that is once I come up with something for movement trays!

Awesome.

I am not sure what you mean by "every formation of common infantry/cavalry models costing the same for each faction" though.

Do you mean the upgrades for formations all cost the same?

Yes, I'd have to agree that the command option costs are stupid, a civic leader, fight 2 courage 4, costs as much as a high elf captain, fight 7 courage 6.

Well since it is evidence that those command upgrades are merely vehicles for Might and that might is priced at at 25 points per, I would hardly call it stupid or any other pejorative remark.

The +1 to both fight and courage above the normal plebeian for that unit is just icing on the cake.

Yep, the Might is the main thing.

If you need some Wotr trays I have some home-made ones that I'm willing to trade. Why don't you take a look at my trade thread.

I misread a few profile's point values when I said

Quote:

However, each command piece seems to be the same. I like how in SBG, even a Moria Shaman is different from an Uruk Shaman, Dol Amroth Captains are different from Minas Tirith and Rohan, etc.

They are different from each other actually. A moria shaman is not the same as a uruk shaman, although not as significantly as they are in SBG. For the most part their 50 pt increase is merely an abstraction to signify their leadership status.

+1 to Fight and Courage with 2 might.

It is much more simplified than SBG in these terms, but thats the point. If you want to play a 3000 point battle where all of these types you mention keep their unique individuality, then using SBG rules at that scale is likely your best bet.

If you want to play LotR at a large scale but not take two days to resolve the battle then thats where WotR comes in (or battle companies if you still prefer the SBG method of combat resolution in a skirmish style).
