I have always liked spectres, and last month I tried to paint about 24, converted from rangers, orcs and WOMT. They work a treat!, and they are easy to paint!
There main power is in controlling the enemy, all enemy minis within about 10", please correct me if I am mistaken, must pass a courage test or have to be moved a full move under the power of the spetres owner, so thats 24 courage tests! Think of that! Band them up with a few orcs, I know you won't have many orcs, but a few is alright, I find trckers are good for this, but thay are very expensive so you cant have a big force of them, but in the smallergames they will outnumber the orcs, either that or goblins, split your force in two, do a bulls horns attack, make your oponent go into a small compact formation, and then you can trap them!

I just thaught of a new one, you know that thing where you isolate a hero from his bodyguard by using compel, then trap him. Well you can guess what I have too say from that. You can fell light the bodyguard also!
I am shocked that nobody has realized how awsome spetres are!,
they have the fell light special rule, cause terror and are only 15 pts!

It depends on whether or not the bodyguard actually have the bodyguard rule or not. If they do, it dosen't matter how many times they have to take a courage test as they will always pass their courage tests so long as their hero is alive on the table.

Yeah but thats just elves, I will get a shadow lord and a few black guard or black numoreans for them, or something else bullet proof for them.

The problem with them is that they do cost hellawa lot...

for 24 of them i could get ...

1. 24 warriors of the dead (which would neutralize your army completely)
2. 42 WoMTs (14w/shields 14w/shields&spears 14w/bows) Sure You can "a fell light in them" 24 of them, but

1.They get shot
2.There is still 58.3% chance of passing the courage test and charging them.
3.You don´t consider the fact, that when playing a scenery, you will be outnumbered 2:1 at least... and those puny little orc, don´t tend to live long when fielded in small numbers

With the Dead of Dunharrow is a completely different story, as they have a "Uber Wounding Special rule" and they have a high defence which means that eve if they lose they wont get killed so easily. As such they can afford to be out numbered... but specters , eerhm, They may seem good on paper, but wait till you play with them, I had the same reaction when I first saw their stats.

One thing what I have found them useful at, is when you co-op about 3 specters with a Nazgyl,
1.Sap Will on the enemy uber hero
2. cast about 2-5 Drain courages (fairly easy to cast)
3.Use "a fell in them" SP to move the hero out of the action (away from the troops and such and) As you have about 3 specters then even a High elf hero with a courage of 3 (7 - 4, about 3-4 drain courages) wont be able to succeed all of them..

Oh, with a Nazgul harbinger of Evil, they may be good against men, but not against elves, they may work on Dwarves as well.

We have already said we shouldn't use them for elves, and, I thought, dead of Dunharrow are 15 pts? I will only use all of them in huge games anyway, I will use about 12 in a smaller game. Also, do you know anybody who collects Dunharrow? I think there is a curse on the army that nobody ever collects it, people think about it, but they never get round to it. It's a pity cus' it is the a brilliant army.
I would use hord tactics for Dunharrow. Give em' pleny' o' orcs.

Dead of Dunharrow are mostly taken as support armies as they are not so good on their but they are great for support on Gondor armies and such. Also, they'd be a bit boring to collect.

Yeah, they've got no Might and no ranged attacks.

Ehhm hello I am the Dunharrow player

I commonly use the Three hunters
(Aragorn,Gimli & Legolas w/armor)
with about 5-20 rangers

and about 9-19 Dead warriors with the Dead King.

I am always outnumbered, but then again such an army is not easy to defeat as it includes some of the best warriors in the game, best shooters in the game and best herose in the game

Purley army of the dead? ehhm, well in that case yes i agree that alone they would be boring and pointless to play, but I do consider this kind of an (my) army, "the army of Dunharrow as it was in the movie".
