What does specialist mean, in GW terms?

I can't see SBG going specialist at this stage, simply based on the fact that it's a licenced property.

On a related note, anyone know if the Legions book is one of the Supplements getting pulled?

A number of years ago, GW made a division called Specialist Games, which provides minimal support for a variety of games that GW has released over the years. Bloodbowl, Mordheim, Warmaster, Epic 40k, Necromunda, etc. are all now specialist games. Most Specialist Games have their rules available online for free and a variety of miniatures are available from GW on a direct only basis. New minis do occasionally come out for the games.

Aah thank you Etienne.

Well let's hope that they will keep supporting SBG.

Agreed. On the same topic, though, does anyone know if this new removal of books was also to include Legions of Middle Earth?

I'm going to have to have a look at it when I go past GW next, and see if the supplemental material like scenarios etc aside from the army lists is worthwhile. I just got the other current books, so now I only have a few of the older Supplements and Legions outstanding.

Legions isn't that old, and it's a must have book for tournaments.
So that is probably a book that won't be direct-order only.

I just noticed in a WD from november 2009, that all the suplemental books from lotr (shadow in the easter, mordor, harad etc.) are €17,50.
Bút a much older book, scouring of the shire, is €20. That seems kinda.. odd.

I thought the older books were cheaper, as they were shorter...

If that's the case then it looks like The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game may already be specialist....take a look see at this.

I think that it would be a huge mistake for them to make these books direct only. I can only hope that this signals a new edition of SBG.

Also, I don't know about any of you, but there have been lots of problems with people getting orders from GW USA. Some direct orders have taken months.

Theskinnyhobbit is correct, direct only would be the end of SBG in America.
GW USA is that bad.

Any GW order I've placed has had a very quick delivery. I only order direct-only figs usually though, as I get everything else from my local, an excellent independent shop with a great selection of GW stuff that can order anything not in stock and have it within a week.

Yeah. Direct-Order for non core stuff has been problematic. This isn't a LotR buy I made but I had ordered a box of epic infantry a month ago and it took a month and a reshipping by Customer Service (which got sent to main address instead of the GW store I wanted it sent to and took 2 tries for delivery since fedex wanted it signed for) to get to me.

Yeah my epic order to a moth too! And it took 3 emails before I got a surly email back form GW explaining that they were "working on my order".

From what I was told, they have to be in the mail back to GW HQ by the 17th.

Hmmmm...worse news: I just tried to order some of the sourcebooks from GW (US) and was told the Khazad Dum sourcebook was out of stock and DISCONTINUED and they were canceling it off my order. This, despite the fact it is still up on their website.

This can mean a couple of things..
SBG is specialist
SBG is getting a new rulebook with all the profiles up to date

I hope it's option 2. I'd much rather a new rule book with all the profiles in it.

Just had some contact with a friend, and he said that there are rumours on other sites and in stores about a new rulebook.
