In short, which is better value for points? Corsairs have higher FV while haradrim have higher D and poisoned arrows. I'm trying to decide which would be better as the core of a Harad/Umbar/Corsair Fleets army.

I've seen Harad armies crush opponents completely, without suffering too many losses themselves.

I've yet to see a pure Corsair army achieve anything higher than a minor victory, and that was once.

Haradrim make a better core, as they're cheaper and have a higher defense than Corsairs without bucklers. Corsairs are good because of their throwing weapons, and the reavers are pretty cool, too. Archery-wise, I'd take Harad archers over Arbalesters.

I would agree General Haar, haradrim make a better core force, but corsairs are a great addition for you but not so much for your opponent. Though I think corsairs are funner to play with, not so many minis to move and different way of playing.

I like corsair arbalesters, but it's true that the reroll 1's to wound also help when you may ALSO move in the same round that you shoot in.

Haradrim miniatures are cheaper to obtain (moneywise) so this may be a factor for you. I got a bunch of 12 haradrim lots for really cheap on ebay while I only see brand new corsairs at just slightly-less-than-retail value in their boxed form.

Haradrim can't take shields which means that a single miniature may never try to defend itself using a shield.

that way you don't need to bother

i have got a lot of harad guyes and my haradrim live longer than my cosairs. i usually make an alliance army with 12easterlings(4 with bows,6with swords and 2 with pike things) a captian, a flag and khamul.on the harad side i have 24 haradrim(12 spears and 12 bows), 3 watchers of kharna ,harad king and a harasnari. as u can see i dont use the cosairs in this army. i like them but ther isnt a lot of choice when it comes to making an army of them. i have seen a ship battle before and it was cool. i like the poisend arows and the harasnaris poisend blades and light step

Haradrim have horsemen, and corsairs have (yet to be released) reavers..

But combining them is a very good idea.

Haradrim have ninja-esque assassins.
Corsairs have guys who yell a lot.

Really, there's no argument.

Actually Corsairs have the best ninja-esque assassin in the game. :-D

In the tournament, last week, someone used an all corsair army.
49 corsairs in total (just.. plane corsairs) and 1 captain.

I didn't play against him, but man.. I saw whole armies getting killed, just because of the throwing weapons.

Mumakil?

It only takes a few turns for a pretty good hero to stampede them towards your own guys. Plus, they take up tons of you're force. In addition, they probably take ages to paint, and look a bit stupid no matter how good you are at painting.

I just finished painting mine, it didn't take too long but I don't spend much time painting my models.

Yes, they're unreliable. Yes, they cost loads of points. Yes, they're vulnerable to powerful heroes. But you forget all of that when they trample half your opponent's army.

At least you tried to last time we had a 1,000 point match, Gil-galad caused 3 wounds on the mumakil single handidly :D whilst still surronded by haradrim and the stampede crushed half your troops. :-D

Corsairs are a great army to use simply becasue of throwing weapons, then you can add in Arbalesters. Harad has alot of variety and plenty of elite troops, but yes, much like dice, whether the mumak ends up destroying most of your army or your opponents is pretty much down to luck.

Corsairs are best. :-D

Personally,I trust harad more due to the options it provides forinfantry as well as cavalry. But umbar has some very special troops which are quite fun to use.For example, arbalesters provide the option of using crossbows, which are only found in an uruk hai force. Moreover, both arbalesters and simple warriors can benefit from the shielding rule, which is never available when you are playing with a harad army.
Combibing the forces of the two kingdoms is always the best option...
