HELLO!! ok then im a rohan player and i have a 500pt force so far! and a basic some up of my force is pretty much 20 horse and 20 on foot, a nice basic 500!

oh yeah led by emoer!!

I find splitting my force into two groups works well with rohan (out flanking) but thats all i really do when it comes to tactics, normally i just take the battle as it comes..
so any help on tactics would be great..........?

thanks

ive seen a complete force of rohan outriders lead by gamling with his banner. all bows! and infinate might! so allot die to bowfire and then you can crush them with a charge

That's a very cheesy army! I heard of it to, but no offense I hate it. Just totally unthemed and just like a GC army no fun to play against.

really really really lame... all im going to say

Alright when i play rohan i use a simple but prety effective tactic, i have all of the mounted guys i can with bows, then ride around shooting as the infantry advances, when the shield walls clash i fan out my infanty into a thin line and have all of my guys shield, then i rush the cavalry over and smash into the back. Thats the basics of it, you have to adjust it during battles but it usually works well.

brilliant! I always have been thinking about an effective Rohan shield wall since they don't have spears.

I am also new and playing Rohan, and I found the following links useful. Hope they will be for you too.

Thanks for the links!

no i don't think they are overpowered. but an all outrider force is just not themed and with gamling... They are nice but as an additional troop for a Rohan army. And using Gamling's banner is IMO just turning the rules to your advantage, it may be legal but no fun at all.

(just my oppinion)

Using Gamlings banner with Outriders is clearly wrong as they are exceeding their normal might limit of zero. I'm pretty sure this will appear in a FAQ soon as illegal.

As for a Rohan shield wall - be aware that against S3 opponents your shields are of no benefit unless you are shielding against a charge.

Riding Rohan around like indians shooting arrows - is likely to gain you very little. The cavalry must be sent in to charge and you need 3 or 4 captains to provide the might necessary to make heroic moves and cheat the priority roll.

I guess it should be illigal without needing a FAQ. Isn't there a rule not to exceed your original status. not by magic or anything??

As for Rohan shield wall. I used it in my last game and it proved very useful on some scale. I only used enough warriors to flank one side to allow the Riders a safe passage to hit the Uruk crossbowmen falling behind.
So it was a single battle tactic but not runing around for the whole battle.
BTW, I won this battle thanks to this tactic, and Isengard payed back for the previous one...yooooohooooo

@ Ebob
Yea i didn't mean riding around shooting like indians, i mean if you have 6 or so RoR with bows you can ride along shooting (behind the infantry) and then charge when you are close enough, i think i misworded somwhere because i didn't mean riding around shooting thing one bit.

I fought a Rohan army once (i think it was 750) which had the 3 hunters, Eomor and like 20 riders (i allowed passenger rules for legolas and gimli cause i thought it was a cool army to fight) don't be limited with just Rohan guys i guess is my point as you can have a efective and themed army with some allies.
