More? The boy dares ask for more?!!!

OK.

For the belly of the dragon I want to have that ribbed snake belly look.

For the body, though, I am going for a more lizard-like skin. I think the snake scale look gives the dragon a too oriental feel.
So, it won't be like this...

but will be more like this...

but won't look like a chameleon.

Ah, here comes the green stuff.

This is very tedious. I envy you all. You can see my progress without having to sculpt a zillion dragon scales!

Cheers,
Natarn. :D

Mate, absolutely beautiful work. You may be envying us all now, but when that beastie of yours is finished I'm pretty sure those roles will be swapped around
I absolutely love all the research your doing in order to develop a very high-quality sculpt!

Gorgeous!

(when in ten years time you'll visit the zoo and discover some chameleons and snakes with that kind of scales, you know they've watched this thread on some animal keeper's computer and copied your great scale's style ... ;-)

:D Hello! Here are some more pictures to show how the scaly skin is developing.

It's a swan dragon! A swagon.

Imagine the head as being just a skull at present. That will change considerably in due course and will no longer look like goosey, goosey, gander.

Looks great so far Natarn! Honestly though, it doesn't look like a swan that much :)

Absolutely fantastic what you're doing with the dragon-skin!!! Very awesome mate!

I noticed you're also adding scales on the belly-side of the body...
I believe the skin on the belly was rather soft skin which Smaug had covered with diamonds etc as a protection...

It llooks amazing though!

Thanks. :D

It's not meant to be scales on the underbelly, but the ribbed belly that a snake has. Note the shape of those pieces. It is meant to be pale and soft.

Smaug did have a jewel encrusted belly after many years lying on his hoarded treasure. However, he did not have this belly armour when he first arrived at the lonely mountain. I want my Smaug to be a younger one - who may have just arrived at the lonely mountain to toast some dwarves and claim the treasure. This way he can also be another, non-specific dragon if I wish.

sounds great mate!
baby-smaug... I can imagine a war against that!
Pre-historic aunt Lobelia alike granny: "Oooh, look how cute... his teeth have started growing... aaawww.... tickle tickle... *squeeze in nose* ..."
Smaug: "Hatsj-WOOOOOF-iiiiii"
...

So mean you aren't gonna add real diamonds on his belly?? What a pitty...

Now that would be a lovely jewel! A dragon-cast with a real diamonds-coveren underbelly :) ... me dreams...

Keep up the awesome work mate! ;)

How many points are we estimating this one will be worth - given that is dwarfs the Games Workshop effort? (no pun really intended)
