Great work DMS! The base is outstanding and the painting is first class as always. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's finished entries.

Well I may as well have a go at entering given I'm not doing that much at the moment and can't compete in the Sauron challenge.

Image

From right to left: My proposed entry, my first and only Gimli attempt (ages ago, it's rather embarrassing now), a second which I can practice on if I feel like getting into it (or change to) and finally an Iron Guard which I may use as a fall back option if Gimli just isn't working :P

Some great Gimlis here! This is my first paint challenge here, and it's great to see so many participants.

Very nice, great fine details and trims. I must say I'm not a fan of the raised axe choice, it looks too much like a tomahawk and not at all dwarvish to my eye.

Actually, you’re completely right about the axe. I took a good hard look at my Gimli after seeing everyone’s beautiful work, and I saw quite a few things I should have done better.

So I reworked him. I made him a better throwing axe from plasticard, painted in his eyes, fixed a few paint details, attached the proper runes to Balin’s tomb, and gave him a scenic base. Much happier with him now.

Great improvements, might give DMS a run for his money and my vote. Nice job! The Goblin shield is a nice touch and Balin's tomb looks fantastic.

@tomogui - the improvements you have made since you first posted your entry have made a vast improvement to the overall appearance of the model. Funny how the smallest things can make such a difference. well done mate!

Thought I'd stop by and drop my Gimli off. I didn't get any pre-painted shots  Everyone's is looking good. Particularly like the one on Balin's Tomb.

I agree with Bastion here. You spent valuable time doing the paint work, and it deserves to be shown off to best advantage. We want to see it!

If your camera has a timer function, I suggest you set it. That way you eliminate any hand-held shaking. And the more light sources, the better (don't use the camera's flash though).
