I would hope not or else there is the obvious "end result" that is NOT something I would want to consider in any Moria terrain modeling. :o

It is a spirt, but GW made up Gulavvhar, who is a spirit wh o does eatr thing. I would suggest that Balrogs, being immortal spirits do not need to eat, but could do so for pleasure.
