Easterling fortress and board

High atop the peaks of the Rhun Mountains, amidst the swirling snows and howling winds, sat an old and mighty fortress.... the stronghold of the formidable Dragon Knights which housed one of the seven fabled Palantir. Many of the Palantir were believed to be lost forever, but indeed Sauron had attained several. One he kept in the Dark Tower of Barad Dur, another in the ghastly city of Minas Morgul, one was kept in the Tower of Orthanc and one he sent to the distant lands of Rhun, so he could communicate and watch over his allies in the east. The lords of the East put the Palantir under the protection of the Dragon Knights and their leader Amdur, the Easts finest soldiers....

also, what is the best way to paint gray stone (for the fortress and rocks) ??

Wow, I'm impressed. Also, using a pawn for a Palantir is a brilliant idea.

I love the Easterling attacking a pawn! Does he have to move diagonally?

That is indeed a very, very neat idea...

Hmmm... it will also test your chess-playing skills having only 7 pawns.

Haha thanks guys! Most chess pieces would work well in modelling such as the knights (horse) for rohan buildings.

Why would i remove the Yin Yang? I imagined it would make a good symbol for the Dragon Knights?

It's your model, but I'm with Hilbert on this one. I almost made the same comment earlier.

I can see what you are trying to do - creating a very Eastern feel. However, for me it just seems very un-Middle-Earthish. The suggestion of a dragon symbol for the dragon knights seems a more appropriate one.

The castle is looking really good.

You could try cutting out a circular dragon shape from some thin card and gluing it over the symbol.

That palantir idea was fantastic, very clever. The fort is looking good, what you doing for texture wise?

To answer your question just cut the circle out with a razor and flip it over. Then engrave the other side. A little dry wall filler or thick white glue will fill the gap. Masking tape will hold well enough on the bottom side.
I think The Eye or a serpent will also look nice. :idea:

thanks, i think ill go with the simple textured paint , but ive never done the pva/sand/water mix before so i might do that.

ive had quite a hectic schedule of lat and havnt had much time to work on the hobby , but i hav mmanaged to pick up some insulation foam and begin work on the board:

the board measures 6' x 4' , the same as citadels battle board. I wont be able to get much work done for at least a week so dont be expecting! :-D
