Great article! I'm a long time Ebert fan.

I once heard that the only thing worse for Hollywood than a massive flop is a massive success. Think of all the horrible musicals spawned from The Sound of Music, the dreadful biblical dramas that came from The 10 Commandments and Ben Hur, and don't get me started on the multitude of terrible films that tried to capitalize on Star Wars genius.

I'm disheartened that The Hobbit got caught in this 3D Avatar trap, but hope that it won't interfere with the quality of the final result.

So now I have to wait an extra year? Why not just tell us it'll be 2012, and then maybe be able to say "it'll be sooner, rejoice!"

Hopefully the delay will make the films better. I am no fan of 3D but each to their own, as long as a 2D version is released, and an extended edition, plus a 5 film deluxe edition and more SBG stuff etc
