Has any one read the children of hurin

if you have or read it tell me what you thought of the book and what you think is wrong or good and do u think there should be modles from it

If u dont have it its at you local book stores

It's very nice, very dramatic. Would make a great tragedy play, but then again it's supposed to be a ballad.

Although i love all of Tolkiens stories, i do have a particular soft spot for stories set in the First Age, so Children of Hurin ticks all the boxes (It even has a nice dose of Wood Elves).
An amazing book, but if you have already read the Silmarillion or Unfinished Tales you will know the story - the Book is really an expansion of what has been made before.
Nonetheless it is still a must buy for any Tolkien fan, and contains stunning Alan Lee artwork.

Excellent book and I certainly agree it has some superb artwork from Alan Lee, worth getting for this alone.

As for models.... have a look at some of the older Mithril miniature range and you will find a number of characters that appear in this story from 'The Black Sword' range, some of which are excellent and well worth a quality paint job....

It's a definate read for any Tolkien fan. Since reading Lord of the Rings for the first time there as been a void for me in fantasy literature. Not many books that I have read since have stirred anything near the feelings I had while reading LotR. When I read Children of Hurin it brought back that same sense of wonder again.

The story and characters would provide a wealth of inspiration for models and scenarios. Turin could be part of at least three different types of armies alone. Beleg Strongbow, Brodda the Easterling and Glaurung for me would be cool to see.

Good question as the Children of Hurin was the first complete telling of one of Tolkiens works for something like 60 years. The tale was only told in parts in earlier publications and it took Christoopehr Tolkien a long time to fill in all the bits.
I haven't read mine yet so I really must make an effort to do so.

God I hope so. I love the Gondolin chapter in Book of Lost tales Part II and I would be in heaven if it were to come out as an entire book! I would be so exited.

I got Children of Hurin a few days ago and have just got up to him joining the Outlaws. Joy to read thus far.

Children of Hurin was a great read! The story was great and the illustrations were a nice colourful surprise!
Christopher Tolkien is aeging and would be hard pressed to write another two books! Deciphering your fathers notes and turning it into a story would rapidly age the best of us!

If I had to sum it up in one word though I would have to say "Dull and Depressing". Wait that was two words! Damn :oops:

I read it over the course of my holiday.

Gotta say, I didn't think it was all that great, and I usually go for misery and dying protagonists.

A lot of the prose seemed overly wordy, and I dunno, it's just not 'the Hobbit' or 'The Lord of the Rings.' Although, the first time I read LotR, I couldn't get into it at all, and put it down after about 100 pages and didn't pick it up for another 10 years...
