I made a break to paint some goblins (never had a chance to work with these minis before). I have to admit that these minis are amazing - plastic, so small, yet the level of detail and quality of the cast is very impressive. I uses mass painting for these six - I've got quite a lot of them to so painting each separately would take forever. Anyway, here are the results. I used GW colour scheme as I liked it, but will paint some with slightly different colurs later (for example brown clothes/green skin or brownish-yellow skin/brown clothes).
Feedback would be appreciated as I will be painting more goblins soon.

All of them in one pic:

The dirty half-dozen. That means I like the way these goblins are painted as it is neat but captures their innate lack of personal hygiene and the ad hoc nature of their apparel.

I like them alot, they look coherent as a unit and the colours are good as well. I would add more rusting to the armour but that is just me. Very impressive models.

Me too - I think they are great - put mine to shame

I think I will have to follow your example of less is better and thin down my paints a bit more

Well done

Thx for the comments. Here's an update on Gimli:

As you can see I didn't follow exactly the GW scheme and changed the colour of his beard. Now only metallics, some highlights on leather and wooden parts and the model will be ready

I've recently bought metal dwarf warriors and khazad guard models and want to paint some before I return to goblins, troll and the rest of the Fellowship. I was thinking about what kind of base would be most suitable for these minis and came up with an idea of making them look like rough mountain terrain covered partially with snow (something like this).
Next thing that I have to decide on is what colour scheme to choose for the clothes. I don't think that the one proposed by GW (bright green with yellow pattern) is the best solution. I was considering purple, red or blue.

Any opinions and different pictures with suggested colour schemes for dwarves would be appreciated. :)

And in the meanwhile I started working on the plastic troll (great sculpt imho). I glued him in a different position (he's slightly more bent forward than normally), used GS (not much was needed since the parts fit almost perfectly) to fill the holes and prepared the base. Shame though that I run out of my chaos black spray while undercoating it

Hello Viruk,

bases with snow would be nice for the guards!

I had played around with colour schemes on those little guys in February. here is the thread, it might help you to deciding what colours to use (or what not to use ;-)
http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6254
I also posted the a pic in my gallery now that there is more space.

I could even think of bleached colours (bleached bone, light grey with a bit of blue) or in contrast to snow cinnemon (or zinnober red or bright blue) when they walk through the snow
(I cannot see the alliance link as I am not a member there ...:-(

I am looking forward what you come up with! :-)

Thanks Beatrice, that helps a lot! I like the blue one the most. Perhaps I'll go for a similar colour scheme, but will probably want to paint the armour gold on my khazad guard. I think that purple clothes might go well with golden armour, but I'm still hesitating...

Blue would be my choice also.

Great set of miniatures so far Viruk, they look great mate...good luck with the rest.
I'll watch that troll with interest, I have him also and I'm not keen on the pose, maybe painted up he will look better.

All of your Moria stuff is marvellous, but those goblins are the coolest! You have got that grimy skin perfect! I am painting goblins at the moment, so I can appreciate it all the more. Stunning!

Started working on two goblin captains - I decided to add some larger stones to the bases so that they will stand out in the green crowd

Well, after almost 5 months of break I finally painted something :)
So... a brief update on the cave troll. I wanted to paint him in a slightly different way than the one proposed by GW, so I used brighter colours. Instead of black-and-pink I tried to achieve pale and greenish look of the skin. It's not finished yet (still metallics, nails and base are left to be done). Also, I will probably add some final touches to the skin.
Anyway, here's how it looks like at the moment.

The skinn looks very nice and he is also nicely painted.

Can't wait to see him finished!
