Hello All! I've become increasingly interested in the Middle Earth game, especially with the news of the new rules/set coming out.

My main question is whether or not Goblin Town is worth it on the eve of it most likely going away. Even if I were to never use any of those figs again in another force, how does it stack up as a standalone experience running through the scenarios, especially if I were putting it on as a demo for new miniatures players?

Thanks!

I think it is the perfect set to give some demo's. It has everything to start and the scenarios build up nicely in complexity. So it is perfect to learn the game.

It is not bad for a demo but you really need more terrain then is in the set for it to work and it can be more hero heavy than is good for new players. Still, it is not bad if you have the time to make it look nice and sell people of the cinematic angel. I'd suggest starting out with some battle companies unless your doing an event of some kind.

Would you consider it a good value given the fact that I will most likely build a Dearveb force of some kind eventually? It appears that those would be some useful heroes.

Would you consider it a good value then if I were already planning to build some dwarf armies? These would be some good usable heroes I’d imagine.

Not really. Only three of the heroes (balin, dwalin, and Thorin) can lead erebor troops and non can lead kahzad dum dwarves. You could use them for erebor reclaimed and lead iron hills troops but you would be proxing for different profiles of the same characters. Which is fine.

Thorin's company is its own army list like the fellowship and it could be used in tandem with another army in much the same way. In that respect the heroes can be useful but you could also just get the armored versions as well.

Efgt is good value if you are looking to use either the gt goblins or the company as one of your armies to start off with. If not, I, and most others, would recommend getting the models you like the look or theme of. Also check out the fb go YouTube channel, cos they have many videos that discuss topics such as this, particularly speak friend and question and it’s faqs
