For example, what types are your favorite, that you desire to use the most or even just get because they look great?

Guards of the Galadhrim Court, Isengard berserkers, Black Numenoreans, etc??

You can include heroes besides the normal ones we see everywhere like Legolas.

Just elites or rares! What are your favorites?

Heroes:
Um, I really like the Aragorn, Strider rules but never have used them before. It is like this happy combination of the different Aragorns put together and it is the Aragorn of Helm's Deep that I enjoy the most. Still get struck dumb by the scene where he slams open the doors of the keep after being lost.

I want to use nameless Ringwraiths, foot/horse, because those are the wraiths that struck me with awe in Fellowship of the Ring. Both on the screen and in the pages.

Elites/Rares:
My favourite, out of the ones I have played, are Uruk-Hai Berserkers because they are so bloody cool in the movie!!!! Nothing more BA than these guys running naked at the enemy with a blade bigger than they are, yet it oddly making sense! I try to run at least one, but my berserkers are cursed with dying from stupid things like fall damage.

Runners Up In no Particular Order:
Rohan Royal Guard (Look awesome)
Dunedain (Are Awesome)
Hobbit Archers (Technically they are elites AND they are "rare", but I love Hobbits)

Interesting.

Those are all choices I like to see.

I've had excellent experience with those archers.

As for the mods themselves do you find it easy to get your hands one those or did you buy them in the old days or glorious metals?

Hi,

For having played a few games with those elites :
- Minas Tirith : I never leave the town without my Guard of the Fountain Court (they're great and look fantastic in a shieldwall... ["Are these guys Giant Dwarves?", "Hem, no my Lord, they're only humans..."]). I sometimes play with Citadel Guard (used with longbow) to target specific ennemies, too.

- Mordor : Black Guard of Barad-dûr. I enjoy their look, and I find them quite powerful to chase specific targets (with S5/D6, they're brutal ^^).

- Moria : Gundabad Blackshield, of course. I converted some classic Moria Goblin to look like them, and they look great on the field. I usually mix them with a few Moria Goblin Prowler (some converted as well). That way, I always have some tools at my disposal to deal with many threats (ancient ennemies, back-stabbers, F3/S3, F2/S4, throwing weapons, D6, bat swarm if needed...) ;)

- Isengard : surprisingly, Berserkers  ! Powerful units. I've bought a couple of Ferals (5), but I haven't played them yet. I'm excited about the idea of adding a few of each in my warbands ! They just look gorgeous !

- Harad : nearly everything XD... As the GotFC in a Minas Tirith army, I always try to include Watchers Of Kârna in Harad. They're too good to be left aside ^^ I've recently played with a couple of Abrakhân Merchant Guards, and I must admit that they add real killing power, and cool poses. I love the Serpent Guards / Serpent Riders models, but I encounter difficulties to maximize their usefulness :( And despite the fact that Half-Troll are awful models, they're really strong. I sometimes use them, but not always because they nullify the 50% bow rule :(

- Lothlorien & Mirkwood : Wood Elf Sentinel. I still laugh when I remind my sentinels singing to take away that stupid Uruk banner. He came back, I sang, he ran away (etc...). Hopefully, no shaman left to counter ;) I don't own any Guard of the Galadhrim Cour, so I can't tell anything about them. I suppose they're beasts !

- Durin's Folk : I still haven't played with Iron Guards, but I'd like to (I don't have the models yet :/ ). Khazad are great, even if they tend to die faster than my regular dwarves (I don't know why  ). And Vault Warden, ahah, unkillable. A lot of effort from my opponent to remove those units, which let me do what I want meanwhile :-D

Some honorable mentions (heroes) :
- Khardush. I just love the unique abilities of this model. Escorted by a few trackers, who just shoot every turn until they sacrifice themselves for the Dark Lord ;)
- When my remaining Gundabad Blackshield conversions will be done, I'll run a Moria army with Druzhag. I'd like to add the Spider Queen (recently got her but never used) and a few spiders in conjunction with the Beastcaller
- Golden King of Abrakhân : never played yet, but I'd like to test his "Riche beyond Renown" rule (maybe in conjunction with a ringwraith) ^^
- Angmar's Shade : well, no, it's a joke. "Shade" doesn't fit well with the word "honorable" :yay:

Sorry for the bad English :)

I adopted: Theoden Mounted, Aragorn Mounted, Fellowship (Metal+Converted), Mix of Siege/Metal Berserkers, and a few odds and ends of the first sets from my uncle because he had a collection of games workshop models that he loved to convert.

The hobbit archers/militia I proxied and was converting from an ebay purchase I made last year where I bought 24 plastic mines of moria hobbits for 33% less than buying the actual metal ones at the same quantity.

I borrowed some dunedain, okay they were classic ithilien but both are cool, for battle companies. Same for Rohan Royal Guard.

Ringwraiths are on my wishlist and have been for a long time.

I find it difficult before and now to get my hands on the nicer models, namely metal. Unless I am lucky and can swipe an ebay lot bid, I just can't get the models. I am frugal/not-the-wealthiest and the prices for blisters, which most of my favourite stuff are blisters (ruffians specifically), are too expensive for my taste.

Perhaps I could convince myself to sell all my plastic and restart with net-purchases-zero and then slowly buy a blister per month, but other than that.... not sure. I'd go for plastic hobbits/ruffians if it were easier on the wallet to be playing said armies which use a lot of models, but I am always settling for something else.

I used to love the Iron Guard and the Vault Warden Team. 2A,D6 and a nice throwing weapon to get a wound before charging. An excellent threat to nearby mounts and light armored units, while the other has a D9 on front and a combined S4 A2. However, the new rules basically destroyed what made this units strong. Piercing strike can nullify the high defences and throwing weapons are no longer as menacing as they were, and then brutal attacks. They are still good, but not as effective as they used to be. When I think about it, that can be said of durin's folk as a whole.

the Berserker is an all time favorite. They have a courage so high that they can hold objectives without heroes backing them up or stop terryfing models. I really got how important an high courage unit is when my opponent's Black Guard failed his test to charge my Gandalf, allowing him to immobilize a troll: that single move on turn 4/12 decided my win.

as for heroes, I'd say Radagast on foot. I used to play with dwarves a lot, and the ability to get rid of a mount on 2+ is priceless. When targeting fell beast, it becames like a Sap will. It's unlikely to dismount a Nazgul, but even if the spell goes with a 2 or 3, the Nazgul is likely to spend at least 2 will. And every point spent for resisting is a point it can't use for spellcasting. Plus, the combination of his elven cloak and "see everywhere" ability will allow me to cover him and keep him safe from archers and most magic without reducing his spellcasting.
And even if there's no cavalry, Raddy has a pretty decent immobilize, which is always good to have.

I'm a fan of Dunedain, and Cirion. I also have a soft spot for rangers. The longer I play this game the more units I like.

I really like Mirkwood rangers. Such cool models, with really fun rules. They're hard to use but when it works out it is really satisfying.

I also really like The Tainted. I know he isn't actually good lol but I love the model, really reminds me of the ringwraiths in the animated lotr movies from the 90s. His aoe drain feels to me like how ring wraiths would actually fight.

First off your English is fine!

I have a couple comments.

1-Wait till you play with ferals....great offense, decent defense, and great courage. Theyre maniacs.

2-If you think your Khazads die fast, wait till you play Iron Guard.

They will always be targeted by bowfire first, and if you play against strength four, be very careful you support them to win combats. Its essential.

Hmm....Let me ask. I know Im an overly rational person sometimes but why Dunedain?

The way I see it, they are a worse version of a Ranger of the North.

As for Cirion, I've played against him a good amount of times. Always good for his cost. Nice special rule. Three might. Solid guy.

I did like Mirkwood rangers for a while too. Unfortunately so highly costed. Lovely models though....some of my favorite elven models in the game.

As for the tainted, thats funny. I hope they make him better. I've never seen one used in a game, in real life, or on youtube haha.

Hehe yeah, I dunno. I think he gets a bad rap buut he's totally worse then the rest of the named wraiths.

I squeeze in a ranger or two when the points work out. They're a lot of fun when they work though, can take some maneuvering which can be exciting.

Thanks :) I try to do my best, but I guess I sometimes make huuuuuge mistakes :p
1 - Ferals : I've recently got Vrasku... So let me assure you I'll definitely play Isengard soon. With Vrasku and a crossbow warband, and some ferals in another :p

2 - Iron guards. Yeah, I suppose they will... That's the main issue with elites, they tend to be primary targets :p That's why I like playing with them, it's "more difficult" because if you make a mistake, they'll be slaughtered first and you'll lose one model but possibly many points !

Absolutely love Berserkers too. Team one up with a generic Uruk Captain in heavy armor (and maybe an extra Uruk warrior to help surround). The Captain helps win the Fight, and the 'zerk helps get the kill, especially if you get the enemy trapped (hence the extra troop). It's a relatively cheap team that can do brutal damage and make great use of Heroic Combat to get a second set of kills.

I have not really used the new WE Rangers but one or two Sentinels in a traditional WE army are glorious. If you happen to have the combat Galadriel around as well for the Courage penalty it's even more fun. I've had enemy Trolls dancing around away from combat or use them to break up a combat line so you can take them apart easier.

Funny you guys seem to like sentinels.

I never really thought they were that great. Maybe I should try them again. I used them twice when I was less experienced but my opponents models either passed courage checks or had no good targets.

He had Isengard and I used it on Vrasku a bunch but he either passed or other units had fury.

Frustrating :o
But I think Sentinels still have other options when they cannot use Eldamar Madrigal :) They still can shoot as a classic elf bowman (why not? ^^), go in melee with 2A (risky because of the low D), and the two other spells are situational but can possibly "disrupt" the enemy's plan ;)

But I understand your feeling... sometimes, you might just say "Boh, I've paid too much for those sentinels, and they're useless >.<"
I like their pose, however, and they always look great on the battlefield ! Good point for them :p

Yeah whether or not they're worth their point, eh questionable, but I think they're super fun to use. When the songs work they feel really impactful and having an elven cloak and 2 attacks makes them pretty useful once the lines clash. I just sing each move phase then throw them in on a safe fight, they can feint, chop stuff up. I think they really feel fluffy to me too. Especially with the old Thranduil profile with the aura of dismay on, with some sentinels really reminds me of the part in the book when Bilbo and the dwarves are trying to join the elven parties but each time they get there the lights go out. Feels very unique fitting skills. I'd really like to see a Thranduil's halls list model that has some similar magic. I know we don't see it in the movies at all but with Thranduil's dragon scar thing they certainly imply the wood elves can have some illusionary type magic. Maybe something to do with the enchantment stream?

First, just a comment on the Tainted: I've used him and he won me a tourney a few years back, so, can't complain :P
Shutting down stand fast and heroic moves is a ridiculously powerful ability. Don't underestimate it, I see it as the most game-breaking rule out of all the Ringwraiths. Take a Shaman so you don't suffer from the stand fast thing, and you're good to go. Plus, the model is just beautiful, looks exactly like a Ringwraith should: hunched, withered and soul-sucking.

As for elites, I really dig Goblin Prowlers. They're so interesting to use, the concept behind them, everything is just really well done. I like them a lot.

Heroes: Well, probably my favourite army that I ever played (and I say this as a lifelong Mordor player, remember that) was: Gimli, Floi, Dwarf Captain, a few Dwarves, and Tom Bombadil. TomBom is just such a fun hero to use, he turns the game on its head for both players, everything with him is just a blast.

I had a mind of converting some (but this would be far in the future for me right now, I don't even have a 'normal' force of Uruks painted up yet). I don't think it would be too difficult, they mainly look like berserkers. The notable differences are 1. two one handed weapons. 2. different heads, 3. one armored arm. The arms you could take from normal warriors, the form of the weapons isn't complicated, only the heads might be somewhat of a challenge. I wanted to use the plastic ones who hold a torch for that as they are for one made of plastic so they are easier to work with and they hold their big sword in one hand only so both hands are in a position that doesn't make this look awkward.
