Thanks for the advice with regards to the cave troll. He is now much much darker I'm pleased to say and I am definitely happier with it now. I'll get some photo's up sometime.

In the meantime here is what I've been working on during the last week or so. I've never been very good at painting horses, the technique involved to get them to look good always seemed quite tricky. However I got inspired and decided to give it a proper go. I was pleased with how much easier it was in the end and after painting most of Theodred's horse up I dug out my mounted Gamling, stripped him of the old paint work and started afresh. He has always been one of my favourite models and poses but he never got finished (probably because I was scared I'd get it wrong I reckon) I'm still dreading the prospect of painting the white horse on the banner! But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...
Once I've finished these, I have a mounted Legolas and Gimli that someone bought me many moons ago, that I may strip and start over with.

Ahh it's been a good while since updating this thread. Been busy on lots of stuff but always forget and then never get around to posting pics up.

Anyway here is a quick wip shot of what I got for Christmas. These are some of the nicest models in the range I think.

Very nice Grimhammers. A nice, dark colour scheme executed extremely well. Nice base too. The horses from earlier look really nice too. The smooth painting on their bodies and subtle highlighting help create a very natural look. Great work all round :yay:

Cheers guys.
As much as I love the GW colour schemes I wanted to break away from the dark pallet with mine so went with a deep blue which will hopefully tie in nicely along side Thorin, when I get him.

Used a couple of spare hours this morning to work on a few warriors of Erebor. Waiting on some new brushes to arrive for final highlighting stage.

Nicely done my friend!
Liking the subtle bold paint style you've gone with.
I've got 24 of those lovely looking Grimhammers myself, one so far is half painted.
Need to crack on and get some done too. Lol

Thanks for the comments again guys.
New brushes arrived today so hopefully I'll get them finished soon...

However I also just picked up this lad. All prepped and ready for priming in the morning!
It's a great pose and massively looking forward to working on him.

Excellent Dwarves! 8) The bases are excellent and with the final highlights I'm sure the minis will look stunning on a tabletop. I look forward to seeing what you do on Thorin. Great pose, that...

Awesome work on the Dwarves. Are you using cut up bits of ruins sets to make the bases? looks like a great idea.

Thanks. Yeah that's right. Dug out a spare ruins set and figured they would look cool mangled up and give the effect of Erebor all smashed to bits from Smaug.

One benefit of being forced to stay at home all day due to the weather means I got slightly carried away with Thorin.
Never spent so long on a face before, still finding them incredibly tricky at times. Looks okay from a distance but pretty shoddy up close. Need more practise!

Finished. Ready to lead!
A couple of things I'm not totally happy with, his face and the gems/stones on the chest for example... And still feel I could have maybe done some further highlighting but he'll do! Lovely model and throughly enjoyed working on him.

Any criticism and ways to maybe improve him would be hugely appreciated!

Finally apologies for poor quality of pics!

Hey those dwarves are tricky, so give your self credit. You really only have eyes and a little cheek/brow to make a detailed face with, it is not exactly the easiest thing to do. I think it looks great.

As for the gems, I am not sure what you wanted them to look like, but there are plenty of articles on painting gems and quite a few people on here who can walk you through it if you provide some close ups of just that area to see it. As it is you have a fine model, so perhaps if you return to this later you will have an idea if you want to touch it up or not.
