Best way to kill Smaug?

Hi guys!

Just wondering how you would deal with "Middle Earth's greatest calamity" if you were to face it?

Of course you've got the wind lance, but I think I've found a more reliable way to deal with Smaug. Because of his total lack of fate, I believe a normal dragon could insta-kill him using the "breath fire" upgrade? Letting Smaug taste his own medicine so to speak.

So what do you think? Is there an easier way, or should we just fight fire with fire?

I am going to produce a giant jelly mold and push him in front of it. Would a chocolate mold be better?

King of the Dead would probably take him out. Azog or Aragorn could probably do some damage as well. Only problem is that his barge attack is immensely powerful as is his dragons breath. The two of them combined make him nigh unstoppable

Smaug isn't invincible but he is the most powerful model in the game and so taking him down is above all else, going to require a huge amount of luck

What about sauron and 2 mordor siege bows with captains?
Those siege bows are obviously just for getting lucky shots and may kill the beast. If you roll a 6 on the shatter cart it hits smaug, and he loses 10 lives....
Obviously when you are lucky you can get 2 of those to hit and kill smaug.

But I think sauron can do it on his own with the ring. if you never use might except when you roll a 1 with the ring's fate, and boost it to 2, you can stay alive for long enough to win some fights and deal some hits. Every time you win, smaug gets 9 hits, wounding on 4+. Obviously piercing striking if a mace can do that.
So you need only to win 5 combats to kill smaug.

why?

just use big stuff seige engines, dont you know vs multiple wounds that cant get instant killed it will drop their morale by half the wounds they got and its just random shoots, not the roll of a 6. The roll of a 6 just works if the beast is beneath 10 wounds since every shoot just take half the beast current wounds, so he drop from 20 to 10 then 10 to 5, just in the 2nd shoot the 6 would be better...

Doesn't the dwarf Ballista have an advantage? I don't have the profiles on me, but doesn't it have a special rule relating to wounds?

I don't think he'd be overly difficult to take out if you designed an entire 700 point army around doing that one task. However, most forces would be utterly crushed by him

I imagine multiple casters would be the best counter to him - for 700 points his magic defenses seem quite limited; two Ringwraiths would make short work of his will stores and prevent him burning his free point on damage; a troll and a swarm of orcs would wear him down after that.

or just do the ent thing. you lob rocks at smaug, if you get lucky 2 shots will kill him, provided you roll a 6 when hitting

Im am very impressed that Games Workshop has made so many ways to kill such a powerful model. At first, I felt that it would be impossible to make rules for a model so powerful and still make it playable, but it seems they have made Smaug very playable. So far I have heard alot of ways to instant death him, and I'm confident that even a standard list can beat him if played correctly and it has enough bows.

Given that it's resin, a very warm lamp may do the trick. Wouldn't recommend it though, it's a very nice (and expensive) model after all.

A regular dragon with breath fire and fly.
The regular dragon has fate, so it can survive Smaugs breath fire. Smaug has no fate, so 1 wound from the regular dragon's fire kills her.
Assuming you don't wiff the fate rolls, the regular dragon has a few turns to put Smaug in a position where she can't get more than 18" away from the normal dragon if she wins priority, without getting within 12" and being charged.
