BUILD ME AN ARMY WORTHIER OF MORDOR

So i decided to review one of my favorite armies that happens to be the most abandoned in its range, the Eastern kingdoms.
The project is to make the easternings a complete army, involving house rules / conversions / smelting / sculpting / and painting of course :D
This is going to be only the introduction to whats coming and i will be uploading pics every time i have one of my projects ready(it is also my first wip)

It is pretty a shame that one of the most powerful armies in middle earth has such a small range of units. I love the the mysterious nature and theme of the easterlings and according to the books they were not only best equipped in Saurons army but also the best trained. Rhun is also a very mysterious land that even accommodated sauron himself for a long time. Long story sort this is going to be the army list i am forming ( pics incoming soon)

Heroes
Khamul the easterling (coming soon)-as known
Amdur (coming soon)-as known
Dragon knight (Ready, awaiting pics)-as known
War priest (coming soon)-as known
Easterling captains (Ready, awaiting pics)-as known
Black Dragon captain (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
Dark lord's Champion (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
*Rhuns piercer (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
Easterling Tribesmaster(coming soon)-Upcoming House rules

Units

Easterling warriors (Ready) page 1
Easterling Katapraht (Ready, awaiting pics)-as known
Khandish warriors (Ready, awaiting pics)-as known
(currently i dont have any more khandish models to include in my army)
Easterling drummer (coming soon)-as known

(Special units)
Black Dragons (Ready) page 1
Black Dragon Kataprahts(Ready, awaiting pics)-as known
Blade Dancers (Ready) page 1+link to house rules
Temple Guard (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
Khandish Hunters (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
Easterling Tribesmen (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules

(Monsters)
Dragon (coming soon)-as known
Easterling Charioteer (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
Khandish Chariot (coming soon)-as known

(Siege weapons)
Easterling Balista (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules
Easterling Trebuchet (coming soon)-Upcoming House rules

NOTE: once a model that includes house rules is ready (converted/painted) i will be posting it in house rules first for approval/improvement and comments. I will include link to guide throgh the posts from here
And this evening i will be posting my first pics!

Awesome also my favourite army. :D

Does this mean you are going to convert and paint black dragons different from the regular easterling warriors?

i wont be converting them as i have many other conversions to do, however i am using the metal old easterling models as black dragons because they are a little bigger but indeed i am painting them differently and i have some of them ready, just need some decent photoshooting this weekend

Looking forward to pics!

Sadly i have been busy a lot when i made this thread, i had a warband of easterling warriors ready a couple of weeks ago but i had no chance to photo shoot.

Easterling Captain

And some warriors. I did want to keep the original theme to them, with the only alternation the head cloth, it looked too much of the same thing when it was red so i decided to break the monotony with good old black

Next i have ready are the black dragons. I did not want to convert anything to make them a different unit as i have priority on converting new models/units.
So i simply used the old metal easterlings that are even a little bit taller than the plastic ones, painted black with a darker tone on their armor and with some freehand details (not the best ones :) )
The ones displayed are a converted swordsman and a captain into 2 black dragons with pikes/shields

NEXT Project is atlast a new unit, the blade dancer!!! i will upload this one tomorrow with some wip photos aswell this time :)

Good to see this project - I will be keeping an eye on it, even if I don't always post as I was interested in doing the same thing.

Overall, top paint work so far. The one thing I'm not sold on is the gold on the shields, it seems to be very flat to me, but maybe its just the pictures. Maybe it needs another wash of black. Anyway, I know that is an extremely difficult colour to use, so keep at it.

AWESOME work/idea with the red and gold tinge to the black dragons - really makes them stand out.

Excellent Easterling army. I especially like the black dragons. The black works really well in this colour scheme.

Thank you for your feedback and ill try to make another shade on the shields :)

I wanted to add a more 'tricky' unit to combine some strength aswell (something missing from the easterling army). The easterlings look a little exotic already so i already pushed that and also from quotes that state easterlings as extremely good fighters with blades.

So here is my ready project for a new unit to my army :the Blade Dancer
his house rules can be found here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=28965

I am not like the sculpting gurus on this site (witch i deeply admire) but converting has been a passion ever since i started this hobby.

the original model was an easterling archer, i did cut his hands and added α scarf around his neck and a hood over his helmet (green stuff). Then i attached some self made (metal) scabbards on his back and 2 metal swords also made by me from the katapraht set. (the right hand is also from the katapraht set.

i wish a had shoot more wip photos but i always forget it (will keep it in mind for next project)

A great conversion, I might even be tempted to do something similar for my army :)

I am stealing the paint scheme for your black dragons. That blade dancer is fantastic!! really mysterious fits the army perfectly.

I may have to steal all your Ideas. :D

Almost finished with the easterling chariot (black dragon). It is nothing special, almost no conversion done, just painted to match the theme of my army :)
