Is that the forge world one? What a beauty! The only drawback of the Zetirdes one that the missus got me for Xmas (other than not having the detail of yours) is the size- it's nice, but a tad on the small side.

Have fun with it- great progress so far!

I would not go for a completely grey stone work as it can be very, very dull. Work in some ochres, browns - a small percentage, but enough to put a little warmth into it. Then do the same with the successive highlights so in addition to the lighter greys have sandy colours as part of the palette.

Looking good so far Paul. I would be tempted to say as Dorthonion has, a little more warmth in the colours would help.

This is a test piece i have done using the previous technique i mentioned and then earth powder pigments, then dry brushing light greys and white.

I am pleased with the results, any CC appreciated of the first three pictures please.

Looks absolutely great, the mildly contrasting greys and browns really bring it to life.

Super- drybrushing over the pigment really binds it all together for a really natural look. Outstanding work my friend!

Immense Paul, I really love the test pieces. You have exactly captured the look of weather top that I had in my minds eye. It now has those subtle changes in colour that it needed. Once you apply this to the full piece it will be jaw dropping.
Just be aware to adjust light and dark pigments accordingly so it doesn't look too uniform in colour.

That looks absolutely awesome! So jealous of you for getting your hands on that piece! The colour scheme looks fantastic, the browns and greens really enhance the stonework and make it look very natural - great job and very inspirational!

Thats what's great about mixing pigments, you can easily alter the mixes to change colour, would thoroughly recommend them to anyone trying scenery. The ones I am using are made by Vallejo and Mig.

Very realistic looking. Great job. Where'd you get the piece and how much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Gene,

FW re-released it to celebrate AUJ in 2012 cost was £220

Hard to justify I know, but being a sado with no life I got it, lol :-O Strangely this hobby of ours really is my life, I give up buying other things I really need just to get more.

I couldn't afford it when it first came out and so really pleased they did another production run.

Terrific stuff, I've not used powders myself but they are working a treat here.

Have not posted any WIP for a while as i have been busy on Waethertop and 30 hours+ on a mounted and foot Bormmir which i will post pics of soon.

Just finished an old scuplt of Frodo with ring i had an urge to paint, the rocks i cast with a Woodlands Scenic mold. Quick figure to paint, left a smirking face as he is just about to put on the ring.
