The armoured Galadhrim are among my favourite troops in the films and among the minis, though the original metals were that bit more detailed but the plastics are pretty good too. And the armoured Haldir is one of the best of the entire bunch.
Great painting once again :)

Excellent paint job on Haldir, looking forward to seeing the full force of Elves.

I've posted a painting tutorial for my Goblins in the Tomes of Wison section but it's still waiting review, I'll link it here once it's approved.

Here's some WIP pics of the terrain. Aiming for quality over quantity, only 4 rocky outcrops covered in planks but I'd say I'm less than half way done on it! I need to build a lot more steps, ladders and bridges. I'll also be doing burning torches is iron braziers, large cotton buds stretched out act as good little torches (last time I built anything like this was over 15 years ago in high school).

Nothing is attached to the rocks yet, each platform section is just sitting in place, I'll be dunking the platforms into a mix of watered down grey and brown to get a realistic wood colour (and quick painting completion)

I'm using the Hobbit Chronicles: Art and Design, (hard back coffee table style book) and it has lots of design sketches for Goblin town in it for inspiration. I want to do some little huts and perhaps magnetise them in place... I'm thinking this could easily sit in a dark forest setting and act as a base camp for Hunter Orcs, or even … any Orc and Goblin camp, Isengard, Mordor, Moria at a push...

Right, back to making ladders steps and walkways...

Superb work. I'm hoping to have a go at a a G.T board myself and this is definitely inspiring me.

I'm loving this Goblin Town terrain. Using Driftwood for the rock outcrops is an excellent idea. When I get around to building my own Goblin Town board, I'll definitely be re-visiting this thread for inspiration!

The drift wood is a good idea for Mirkwood too!

My day off to do Christmas shopping has turned into a coffee fuelled terrain marathon.

I need to work out how best to photograph the terrain but the main colour scheme for the rock and the base is 90% done, details are left for a final pass at a later date. It doesn't necessarily look like a rocky cave but I want it to be used for outdoors as well

Granted the rock looks very organic, this is fantasy and my favourite LOTR concepts for evil terrain have organic looking rocks: the acidic bitterness of the bad guys is literally eating away at the stone.

The platforms have been dunked into a watered down paint mix. I use Windsor and Newton bottled paints, black and white to make grey then a dash of Burnt Umber, with about 3 parts water to one part paint. I'm not entirely happy with the outcome – I forgot that the glue will repel the watered down paint so I have lots of light patches. Next step will probably be to hit it with some black spray paint then go at it again but I'll perform a test on a small piece first.

Trying to remember where all the parts go was tricky. I've got lots of spare beams for when it comes to gluing everything together.

I had intended to get all the detailed construction done but will do that once the basic platforms are finished and glued down. (steps, ladders, hand rails, shacks, etc.)

Whilst I'm not a fan of the way you Warhammerified the Goblins, I do like the painting and this current scenery project, it looks very impressive and ever so slightly awesome. You were joking about the goblin spider riders weren't you?

I adore modular terrain, particularly scratchbuilt, detailed and painted terrain. This is wonderful work!
Any chance of a rope bridge or two?

The terrain is looking great, the platforms look fine to me colour wise and I'll be making a note on how you did them.

Yet to get some decent shots of the terrain, had to lower the brightness quite a bit (I do the opposite photographing minis in my light tent).

Basic planking colour is all done. Next up I'll glue it all in place then think about the weathering on it, currently way too uniform and clean. Good chance I'll make the detail and paint that first though, then give the entire thing weathering.

It doesn't look much like goblin town to me.. just goblin platforms. Going through the concept artwork I'm seeing little shacks and signs, things like wooden fireplaces and photo frames crudely placed around/over little fires, and cart wheels and buckets... all manner of stolen detritus.

I've even got an idea to make little rock catapults as part of the detail phase, mounted on cavalry bases. They could be manned by any goblin coming into contact with it...

More to follow. Only realised typing this that I have one more plastic platform sprue from Escape from Goblin town..

Just saw Desolation of Smaug yesterday and the company of Dwarves have grown on me, I'll need to get working on them soon.

Nice! I'm certainly envious.

I think the main thing with a lot of Goblin Town terrain is that there's a lot of 'goblin' but not a lot of 'town'. Little huts, fires, racks of meat (in various states of freshness, perhaps some are still alive), toilets (though i imagine, being goblins, they might just go off the side), bed rolls, slave and animal pens and the like will get it further away from being a bunch of platforms and make it more 'lived in by horrid little creatures'. Also provide a nice bit of play room for you to mess about with ideas. :D

Yep totally agree. I'll be making them as little vignettes and using hidden magnets to stick them to the side of the rock or hanging under the platforms (with suitable bracing and supports).

I don't want to obscure any of the platforms for movement purposes, and I also want to be able to remove the Goblin details and use the basic platforms as a forest lair for some Hunter Orcs, hence the magnets.
