[sfx]trumpets[/sfx]
[sfx]fireworks[/sfx] - hmm, still need to get these to work!

I expect to have the new article system in place and ready for use on the 1st of May.

As you will have seen, the system is essentially in place already. I am still ironing out some final issues (some trickier than others), but expect to have it all wrapped up and ready for you to use by the end of this month. Rutta0208 has been diligently adding the best of the old articles to the site (thanks Brian - [sfx]applause[/sfx] - dang, still doesn't work).

So, with a bit of luck (and sleepless nights), we'll be full steam ahead next month.

I will write some instructions for using the system in time for the release, and the submission guidelines will be reworded also.

Some basic notes about the new system:

1) Users will type in their own article here on the website in much the same manner as making a post in the forums. The headings and special text effects will all be handled using the BBCode that everyone is familiar with, plus some new ones that are for use specifically with the article library. Images will be uploaded to the site and stored here.

2) Articles can be rated on a scale of 1 to 10 and feedback can be left here in the forums in threads automatically created when an article is approved.

3) The submission guidelines will be enforced. Consider them as 'rules,' not guidelines. We are aiming to be the best LOTR website on the planet and we won't accept anything less than the best you can do.

4) We encourage people to only submit their work here, but recognise that you might like to achieve fame and fortune in other communities as well. So while we would like to have your work as an "exclusive One Ring publication," we won't jump up and down if you choose to betray us, er, go elsewhere.

5) IMPORTANT! Articles will not directly contribute to member's ranks.

WHAT? WHY? Don't panic - we've thought about this a lot. We feel that since the article system is such an immensely important part of the website, articles need to be written to the best quality possible. By linking the article library to the rank system, it encourages people to submit almost any old rubbish (and I have seen some shocking pieces of rubbish before) in order to get at least one vote (their own). We think that the privilege of having your article in our library will be enough reward.

There will be other ways to gain ranks instead (to be announced).

It sounds great Alan and with Brians sifting of the existing articles
it opens up the field for new members to write articles too,
since all the topics will probably not already have been covered.

I must admit I'm still a great believer in seeing alternative
goes at the same thing, if they have anything useful to add to the
original. Often anything people do is probably a composite of
several different ideas anyway, even if they don't realise it at the
time.

I hope you will be able to except handy hints and shorter tips too
as a small idea could still be a good idea that needs sharing.
Although they would be shorter, the quality would still have to be high
but might be easier for new members as a first go.

Nice work Dagorlad! I agree about ranks, you may get less articles but they'll be a much higher quality. IMO people will still write tons anyway to post on websites like TLA but they'll only submit the ones they think are great if there's no rank benefit from them!

Hope it all goes smoothly!
