I have decided to build a Mountain Giant like from the Hobbit movie and I am looking for help with his (is it a he?) stats. Any ideas? Once I start work on it I will post WIP pics in the appropriate forum.

How big do you plan on making him?

Styrofoam and other such foamy-cardboardy-cuttable 'tings?
Rugged shaped blocks stacked? Crude but im sure with good painting it could work

He could have a special rule where he can appear whenever you want from a specific rocky terrain piece

I would use either the Dragon w/Tough Hide or the Balrog.

Both have a really strong "Throw Stones" attack and you have the option to use either a large oval Dragon base or a 60mm monster base...

Imagine someone fighting against a Stone Giant? I can't :p I'd rather give it a bunch of special rules without a specific profile, more like Tom Bombadil.

That was my thought as well. Maybe if you went back to the older edition of SBG rules and gave him Defense 100 like fortifications had, and all those special rules thst accompanied it.

Here is an idea at a profile:
Stone Giant
F S D A W C M/W/F
2/- 10 100 1 1 10 0/0*/0

Movement 10"/24cm
Special Rules

Resistant to magic

Fearless: Stone Giants never need test for courage.

Lumbering: Stone Giants, with their great size, do not move quickly and as such when they "win" a combat their opponent may still make a single strike against them.

Massive!: Any model that suffers a wound by a Stone Giant must roll a die, on a 4+ the wound is ignored as the attacked model safely evades the attack (fate may be used after this roll is made); however any model that fails this test and suffers a wound is slain outright, regardless of its wounds remaining.

Note: I was inspired by the fly I killed this morning lol.

Thanks for the Interest he will be about 3ft tall and will be made of foam on a wire skeleton. I will then foam coat him. I like the defence 100 idea and all the other stats.

Defence 100? Heh, how many consecutive sixes need to be rolled to cause one wound? :)

I have thought about this for a bit. My problems is where to keep it. I think you could get away with two feet tall. I don't like to use spray foam because I don't think it is ridged enough for a model that will be used for gaming. I have used quite a bit of it for large back drops.
If you want it three feet tall consider a pcv pipe skeleton. The pvc elbows and T joints will allow you some pose-ability.
Please make a WIP: 8) I am looking forward to seeing your design.

@ukfreddybear: defence 100 Means only strength 10 can hurt it. PS: I've seen your stone giant and a lot of your other sculpts. They rock, pun not intended.
@oldmanwillow: it won't be spray foam it will be styrofoam with a hard layer of foam coat. Look it up.
Thanks everyone! I hope to star a WIP soon.

I think defence 100 is silly as only a balrog etc. can hurt it. It may be realistic like irl, but I think It quite unbalanced in game terms. D10 is more sensible, no?

A Balrog couldn't hurt it (not high enough strength) but and ent or siege weapons could and i'm thinking a special rule where after a certain # of turns and/or combats there is a chance that he will get distracted and leave the battlefield.

To tower over most of the GW range, your Stone Giant would only need to be between 12 to 18 inches at most - (30.48 to 45.72cm). It would make a Mumakil look like a poodle.
If the giant was made sectional - removable torso, legs, arms and head - then storage would be simpler and you might get away withmaking it slightly larger, though I am not 100% sure how to create a reliable 'skeleton' and joints for something on that scale. Plus the feet and base are going to be enormous.

I just spotted this - I like the image:

And here is a fascinating bit of background discussion into the whole subject:

No need I spoke with the Foam Factory guys at The Train show. I prefer drywall filler because I can stain it with the Woodland Scenic pigments.

Foam Factory has custom accessory's for their foam cutters that would make short work of embedding a pcv frame work. You would have to laminate two half sections together around the frame. I like pcv because it is easier for me to work with. You can weld together some steel rod if you prefer. I would articulate it. My step son would make it remote control.
The link was interesting.

How about creating a man sized suit? You could attach the dwarves to your kneecaps and stomp all over the game board! :-D It doesn't get much more authentic or interactive than that!

Thanks for the links! I might make the suit for fun. I'll try the drywall filler. The WIP won't be up for at least 3 days though. I would also like more input on the stats/special rules.

Dorth goes wargaming as a Stone Giant...
Oh, good evening officer. I can explain... honestly...Yes, those are dwarves attached to my knees. Have you seen the film...? Well you need to talk to UKFB at one-ring - this was his idea... :)

How's this for a cunning plan: modify one of these using high density foam glued to the outside and then sculpted into rock formations?
