I posted another picture, hopefully you see better my colour low/high colouring! I do hope my paint is not as basic as you commented.

Only just saw this.. Nooo don't be sad.. I never wanted to criticise your skill of painting, which is great! I just meant I'm not a fan of snakebite leather as a cloth colour. THat again doesnt mean you cannot / shall not use it!! Feel free to paint your minis whatefvr way you want!! ;)

I've had a close look and the blending seems pretty good. Maybe this isn't the best sculpt to show this off and the light reflection doesn't help. However the areas like the cheek and calf muscle look very good.
This is your first effort at blending and I would be pleased with what you have done. I think you have set a good base point for you to move forward as your experience grows.

Having watched The Hobbit less than 24 hours ago, I have to say that is a fabulous rendition of Tom. There is a lot of depth to the 'skin' (not sure if that is the correct term for a trolls epidermis - hide maybe?)
Very well done!

I have been painting the old metal Orcs, great sculpts, full of character. Gw have stopped doing them but they are easy to get on ebay.

Have a few more finished but need basing. Wanted to do a "brighter" colour scheme using the flames on the shield to bring them in as a unit. The Banner Bearer i painted up for the Competition this month, the first time I have painted "free hand!"

8) Very cool! Great to see these amazing minis painted up so well! Still I don't find it too easy to get these orcs, I only have a few...

Great looking orcses. The banners are very eye-catching, and just because black is most often associated with Mordor does not mean it was the exclusive background colour for their flags - orcs would pillage and use anything available. very nicely done - lots of tonal and detail depth in those minis!
