You echo my feelings exactly...

If i could highlight even a little, little bit like you do, I'd be content for the rest of my life...

Amazing work as always. The 2nd photo is definitely the better one - more light shows off your brilliant highlighting better. They look so realistic. One day, when I have nothing else to do I am going to learn how to paint!

I've started on my Gandalf.

Still lots to do including smoothing out that horrible highlight along the lower half.

That is unbelievably good. :D One of your best ever - and that's saying something. Can you please, please tell us how you painted the face? I can't get over how awesome that looks.

Fantastic work! Love the colours and the shadings of the robe and belt! Great work on his face and beard! And the blue turns out very nice for the scabbard and grip of the sword!
THat makes a complete awesome Gandalf!! :yay:

I used a basic triad of khardic flesh, midlund flesh and idrian flesh all p3 paints along with vallejo light flesh for the extreme highlights and regal blue to mix into the shadows. I added 2 drops of thinning medium and a drop of water to all.

To start I applied several gentle washes of khardic. I say gentle as I don't want to flood the face. I normally with the brush against a piece of kitchen roll and then wipe it on my hand to remove the excess. I then applied a couple layers of idrian pulling the paint into the eye sockets and temples. For the final shadows I mixed idrian and regal blue and glazed the areas I wanted to be darkest.

For the highlights I layered first midlund and then pure light flesh. I think I thinned these a little more as it took a lot of layers.

And that's it! Nothing too complex really just a matter being patient. Admittedly I did practice painting skin a lot this year with loads of gw ogres so I don't need to think much about what I'm doing.

Thanks so much for posting this. I'll try something similar next time I put some effort into my painting. The end result was spectacular.
