I couldn't think what they looked like (other than rather excellent) and the bingo 8)

Might sound a bit stupid but is there any great technique to paint eyes apart from paint white circle then dot with black?

I believe another technique is to paint a black oval, then a white triangle either end within the oval, leaving the middle bit black.

I cheat and use a microfine drawing pen to dot the eyes. Works pretty well.

Great work as always. The right eye of Galadriel is a little big but its seems a bit of skin tone at the top would fix that? The rest of the face is amazing. I wonder if you thought about two tones for Galad's robes as you did for Celeborn? That is, a different colour for the robes over the hands (suggesting a different inner robe). A contrast to the brown might look good. I don't mean to be critical since you are 1000 times better painter than me - but hoping some constructive comments will help you win a Golden Demon one day!

That's a pretty good idea. With the robe being one piece I had never really thought about painting it different colours or even as a decorative kimono. I'll keep that in mind if I ever paint her again. I did try mixing some dark green into the shadows to give a little colour variation but I didn't like the results.

I do have a magnifier that rests on my chest as I paint and it does work very well and more importantly makes my look pretty cool. But it's very awkward to maintain the precise angle so I very rarely bother.

I love the Celeborn model you have really conveyed the timelessness in the ancient elf's face. Which is quite an achievement to make someone look ancient but at the same time youthful lol

Hi guys

For this month's competition I'm considering doing a womt warband. Basically I've never developed my metallics beyond basecoat/black wash and this is an opportunity to try improve in this area.

This is a test model I did last night and I'll probably do a few more before committing to my entry. One thing I learned was how unforgiving metallic paints can be - the slightest imperfection is quite noticeable on camera. Taking a photo qas tricky too. I've tried to minimise the amount of direct light to reduce the natural reflections but hopefully you can get an idea of what I'm going for.

I know what you mean about trying to photograph them...one bad angle can really throw the look of the miniature off tremendously. I like the look of this one alot...cannot wait to see a whole warband of these troops from you! :)

I did a couple more tests today. The first one I followed a tutorial that took close to two hours and with hindsight I think wasn't appropriate for such a small model as the subtle colour variations don't really show on camera. The second took probably ten minutes. I think I'll use the last one with a final oil wash which gives much deeper shadows and contrast than using say badab black.

This is my final test miniature with the rest of the colours blocked in. Now to paint the rest of the warband.

that's a very nice paint scheme MMS.. I really like the shield colour, though I think the bright shield colour is a bit overwhelming both on the shield and the cloth.. on the other hand a darker or even a different tone on the cloth is gonna put more colours on the mini which I don't know how it will turn out.. Just my opinion though, I could be wrong, I'm not great with colours.. Anyway, whatever you choose I'm sure you gonna do a stunning paintjob on it 8)

fantastic work, I love WoMT! The colors looks very subtle, but it still suits them perfectly. I like the color scheme (I've done roughly the same idea with a light blue) and it works quite well painting the shield the same colors as the robes. 8) Faces & highlights look top notch too!

Your paintings are spectacular. I have mad respect for your style. But I really interested in you doing a photography tutorial. Maybe with screen captures step by step . . . Could I bribe you into teaching me?

Excellent work MMS!

I particularly like the boots... they look like genuine suede!
