Can you have an epic hero in a legendary formation? I know the "We Stand Alone" rule means no epic heroes can be included in that company/formation. I was curious because I wanted to place Lurtz with Mauhur's Marauder's and didn't see any rules for/against it.

Yes, you can have an epic hero join any formation so long as it doesn't have We Stand Alone, or you run out of more normal warriors in the company than other stuff- epics, banners, captains, etc.

I was wondering if you have a legendary formation with a special rule foe example Ambusher is it possible for a Epic hero to start the game in that formation so they ambush aswell or not?

Yes, the epic hero (to the extent of my knowledge) may start within the ambushing formation (for instance, Gildor's household with Legolas joining them in ambush).

I know for a fact that you can do so. It says so in the rules manual:

Quote:
Epic Heroes may join a formation of ambushers during deployment... If there is more than one formation of Ambushers, the controlling player must declare which formation the Epic Hero has joined

That's great I don't know why but my gaming group didn't follow that rule think we just assumed you couldn't will have to tell them.

There are loads of new combinations I want to try out, strange as it might be I'm thinking Wardens of the Carrock with Eomer (cheapest Epic Rage hero I think, if not please tell me) then Epic Rageing as they only have defence 4 anyway then I could get Strength 8 +D6 charge bonus rear charge off to hopefully cause a huge amount of damage, if I needed to I could also call a Heroic Duel and Epic Strike and do even more damage.

Yes, Epic Rage is wonderful, but becomes far more useful (and expensive) when coupled with Epic Rampage.

It is more expensive but Gimli has both and is only 175 points which isn't bad considering most duel hero combination will cost upward of 200 points, I will see if I can find a cheaper combination bit if not I might actually think about taking Gimli in my elf army given there low Defence anyway

Just as a note he goes nicely with Legolas, as Swift Strike means you get to flatten opposition before it hits back.

I know I have used them in conjunction before but Legolas if overcosted and an elf army can't really afford to take him very often :( if they had made him 150 points instead them he would get loads more use but it to hard justifying he worth 75 more points than Thranduil and 25 more than Galadriel

Depends if you have enough undercosted allies as well.

I don't use undercosted allies don't see the point just results in everybody using the same troops and the game is no fun (I can't tell you the number of times I have seem WOMT go up against Moronnon Orcs as the main fight in games where both sides where using them as allies)

If you're playing Elves, Rohan or Angmar then you need all the help you can get. Of courseif you have Dwarves, Isengard or Fallen Realms then you should work with what you have.

That was my point I don't mind allying in units to fill the weaknesses in my army for elves Rohan Militia or Hobbits help with cheap numbers and Dwarves help with Defence but I don't think you should use badly undercosted units that aren't in your list (and if avoidable ones that are) even if your army is weak it ruins the game and belittles the use of tactics and strategy in favour of just having the largest formation of cheap D7 infanty and a couple of good heroes

I don't mean you should make your army out of allies, but say you have 3 or 4 formations of Galadhrim or High Ef Cohorts, and some Wood Elf Archers and appropriate Heroes, you miht want to compliment them by taking a couple of blocks of WoMT and KoMT led by Faramir.

I don't mind using allies just not badly undercosted one, I don't mind taking KOMT, Citadel Guard and Faramir etc, so basically if I play good I won't use WOMT

KOMT and Faramir are both worse then WOMT IMHO, it's just that WOMT are something you can build an army around, those aren't.
