Aww, are you lonely?

I prefer the Dwimmerlaik, but he is not the only decent one. The Dimmerlaik is the hardest one to ES duel, and he can protect other friendly heroes. that is why he is my favourite. Does anyone else care to answer?

Why is he the hardest to duel?

Beause an enemy hero must expend might in order to call a duel, and the Dwimmerlaik's rules makes expending Might more difficult.

The Dwimmerlaik is interesting- insofar as he and Wormtongue (from SBG) get along very nicely. Though the earlier point about using the Tainted has its merits- but my personal favorite has always been the Witch-King- if you do swoop behind the enemy at the end of one turn (movement phase, naturally) then it will slow down their movement in the next turn if they're going first- plus the Witch-King is the hardest Wraith to duel, as he can ES right back at you three times, if you need to (though I would use his might for more useful things- granted, in the long term the Dwimmerlaik may prove tougher to get a successful duel off at, but each to their own).

No Valamir, the W-K is east to duel, because the Winged Nazgul don't have ES.

We will have a tournament soon, WOTR, 1250 points.
I will use the Betrayer as a captain of a huge morannon orc formation, and Tainted on Fell beast. I still worrying, that maybe 250 points for a Fell beast is too much, and I should use more infantry. What do you think, can the magic and the fell beast cause enough damage for the enemy, does it worth it?

I wouldn't use a Fell beast at that point limit, they can be VERY VERY effective and could win you the game but as they are only Hard to Kill they can also die in the first or second turn very easily and a small but lucky formation of archers can take him out in one turn. Be especially aware of elves for that and their Epic Shot Heroes, Haldir who only cost 75 points can spend one might (which cost about 25 points) to Epic shot and take out a 250 points unit (x10 what it cost to use).

If you want to take a fell beast use the Shadow Lord as it negates this but you then also lose the ability you would have got from The Tainted or other Ringwraith making him slightly less effective

I'm sure about the Betrayer, but I still wondering, should I take Tainted or Dwimmerlaik.
Courage, or might point, this is the question.

I will take care with the archers, I know they are dangerous.

It really depends on what your army is if you have lots of terror causing units such as trolls, Mouth of Sauron, other Ringwraiths and the Tokens of Terror fate then a reduction in courage would be great so you take the Tainted. But if you are not and you'll be facing lots of epic then take the Dwimmerlaik (Boromirs 6 might runs out very quickly when he has to constantly use 2 instead of one, it also make people wary about calling heroic actions which is great.

so it's your choice and depends on what army you are using

I just have the Betrayer and the Fell Best, that's all for terror. Maybe Dwimmerlaik hereis a wiser choice.

The Shadow Lord is not the best Fell Beast because;

a) it only stops bows at strength 1 from hitting, they can still hit him when you're within range for strength 2.

b) if you use a fell beast well it won't get in unnecesary danger anyway, so a better FB would be Dwimmerlaik or Tainted. Keep Betrayer or Khamul as the Foot one

I think that is the right choice (it's the one I would have chosen) the terror effect is very poor against elves and dwarves and other good armies that take a lot of casters but every army has Epic Heroes and Captains so he is nearly always useful

I have used 1 Fell beast in a 1250 point game. It was the Witch King and coupled with Gulavar (Angmar) vs Elves and Warriors of Arnor. The reasoning was that ATD and Auto-passing terror tests with my Courage challenged Orcs and Men of carn Dum was a nice thing to have. The plan was to keep the WK back while the main units with The Tainted and the Dwimmerlaik surged forward with Wings of terror. To close with the pesky long bow carrying High Elves and then swoop in behind them a turn or two later. (playing battle for the pass, mobility was important)

It didnt quite work out as The flying beasties ended up moving up the Left flank and the infantry mainly on the right, but with careful screening the Arnor player felt the Fliers 'controlled' the game and he was always having to respond to their swooping threats rather than go on the offensive. Of course I was having to play them carefully not to expose them too much...

But my points are... even the WK can be useful in smaller games, and his mobility helps keep him 'behind' your troops so they pass those tests, even at that extra 75 points in smaller games. Or maybe I was just lucky...

How can we definite, what is "somewhere behind"? The rules for this are not so clear for me. Is there any distance rule, or not?

If I remember rightly it was FAQed and says that 'somewhere behind' means just that as in he doesn't have to be in their rear arc or within a certain distance just behind them.

Heh. That's a perennial question.... This was even addressed in the official FAQ which (un) helpfully suggested it should be clear when he was 'behind'... And to use 'common sense' i.e. encourage a polite (or less polite) 'debate' between players about the definition at a key moment in the battle...

Of course. How does this apply to monsters with no facing? technically The Wk could be classed as always 'behind' Gulavar as well he has no 'facing'....

ah but to my thinking Gulavar does quite clearly have a front as with any model and any humanoid creature the side with the face and the front of the body it the front, so behind clearly means the opposite side to that
