It is useful and yet it does die very easily if unprotecting. For most Mordor players a Shade is a bad ally but if you like non-ES heroes like the MoS and Captains , a Shade could be just what the doctor ordered. Does that help?

Well I want to use it for reducate the enemy hero fight value, so I can kill him easily by heroic fight. I just have to move it far from my formations, if I dont want to suffer the same. This is why I ask, that how easy to manage this strategy?

Btw, this is my army list now, but it can change any time:
3C black guard + Bann, Cap -235
5C morannon + betrayer -250
5C warg +taskM, drumm-185
5C orc +taskM- 125
shade - 100
2C Grisnakh trackers-105

I presume you mean Heroic Duels. Since a Shade reduces your Fight too, it doesn't make it easy to kill most enemies, (and ES is also reduced), it is for evening the playing field.

As fir moving a Shade, it can't go too far behing your formations, or it will reduce your fight value, but not affect the enemy, and tyhis is then in your favour. However it can't be too close either if enemy formatiopns have AtD which they usually do, because the Shade is too slow unless you also take an Overlord eg Gothmog, and they have the Shade call Herouc Move to move well out of danger.

it seems a lot of units are not used because they are too expensive to field in large numbers. for example gaurd of the fountain court are better than warriors of minas tirith (apart from the defence), but at £20.50 for 4 they are nearly impossible for the average person to get a big block off. same for denethor's gaurd.

Most expensive modles can be converted out of cheaper plastics though.

Not hobbits and fountain guard.

Fountain Court Guard = WoMT with helmets etc converted. Albeit you'd have to be a good sculptor.

Again if your good enough Hobbits = Moria Goblins (they're small enough), you'd have to be really really good though.

That's my point. You'd have to happen to be UKFB or Ebob to pull that kind of thing off.

The price thing IS an issue. I personally can't convert and hate proxying so my Rohan army cost me literally hundreds of dollars for all those Royal Knights, Outriders and Sons of Eorl. The Outriders, in particular, cost me, I think, like $200.00 Canadian for four companies.

Why did you get Outrider in WotR anyway? The only decent cavalry In Rohan, are the Royal Knights, with a potential use on genneric RoR if your very good. No meaning to question your style, maybe you like using underpowered, overcosted nits in large quantities.

I don't use any cavalry in large numbers, except the Royal Knights and Sons Of Eorl. Besides, Rohan is a cavalry army. So I use cavalry.

Sons of Eorl? Why? All you need is Knights.

LOL, you don't think much of Rohan as a list, do you?

No, they aren't that good. An all infantry Rohan would actuallly be more competitive than all cavlary Rohan. Nearly every unit in their list is bad.

In my experience, they aren't all bad, but there ARE two glaring issues:

1) GW seems to think that Expert Riders is worth WAY more than it actually is, because cavalry shooting is kind of a throw-away in WOTR.

2) There's not much in the way of Defence 7+ in the list - and unfortunetly, due to how some OTHER lists get easy access to Defence of 7+ in their Core formations, Defence seven and up is the be-all, end-all stat.

How can anyone say that WoTR is a balanced game, then? Game balance to me isn't "if you use Rohan, don't bother setting up. You lose." or "if you don't bring Khamul in your Isengard army, you're an idiot."

Well let's be serious, we're talking about Gee-Dub here. Nothing they do is even in the ballpark of balanced enough for competitive play.

I agee. People chastise you if none of your 3 wraiths at 2,000pts (which is too few) is Khamul. Anyway, I have a personal system for attempting to create game balance for myself by assigning each unit an UBRPV which must be within 10% of the total pts to be useable, if it goes over that it is too good, under and it is too bad.
