Thats it right there !!

Yep, ukfreddybear also knows how hard it is to run a business.

I still like his version better.

The Watcher doesn't need legs. When playing a game of SBG with the Watcher just imagine it as EA's BFME II videogame; The Watcher just explodes out of the ground out of nowhere creating its own geyser of gushing water! Would work really well in desert scenarios, lol.

Btw nice to hear from you again Oldman, been a while. Read you've been keeping the forums quite active in a certain topic not too long ago, lol. Bloody trees! :P

It was either we don't get a Watcher model, or we get one with legs.

^^ Awe, there's always UKFB's, more affordable probably anyway. Besides I guess if people don't like the hump back with crab legs, they could always cut up and convert their $70 something model.

I have not had much time to build anything because I am moving house. I will have the new game room finished in time for the Hobbit.
I am looking forward to the books and some of the Models. I still agree with you for the most part about fine cast. I am too much of a ME fan to stop purchasing altogether.

^Even with the price increases...

I know I'll have a hell of a time trying to resist buying Smaug if he turns out to be a great model, which likely he will. Even though I'm hating on GW now these days, I'm glad they've finally released something new for LOTR, but I must say do we really need another goblin Shaman along with another Goblin King and ridiculous goblins riding a warg? I have to agree with the 40K/Fantasy players on this one, what a waste of resources. lol

Has anybody noticed or even discuss the trend that when GW releases a rulebook like LOME or WOTR they have rules for non-existing future releases of models, but they never end up making them and have entirely different models instead not found in the past books?

Is it not better to have the rules there though? Then you can use whatever models you wish to represent them. The WotR book had rules for loads of unreleased (at the time) models in it; a lot of them were then made; Grimbold, cave drake, dwarf champion etc. I'm sure they intended to make them all at some point- but plans and policies change.
Personally I'd much rather have a definitive set of rules for all possible characters/units than have to collect together a dozen white dwarf issues and internet print outs for new units.

That is BS and you know it. :P The "body" GW have added would clearly be visible behind the head of the Weta model - but it isn't because it doesn't exist!

We both know that GW didn't think this model would sell well enough if it was restricted to just water based scenarios, so they've come up with the idea to give it legs so that it can also be used as a land based monster for all the power gamers out there.

Not at all BS. The Weta model has a face and tentacles coming out of the water, facing upwards- you can't see the rest of the body so it's up to your imagination.
I agree that a water-bound monster wouldn't sell well, but even without legs the creature could still be a land=model. whether it slithers or kinda blobs it's way across the landscape, there's no need for legs.

And as I said before- GW can't release any models without the Tolkien estate's or New Line's approval. They have to be happy with how a model looks. So it's not like it's GW on it's own.

I'm pretty sure that Tolkien said the Watcher appeared at the Westgate AFTER the lake was blocked up. Yes, it might have tunneled in from under the mountains somehow, but then how would it tunnel with just tentacles? I think the legs actually make sense now that I come to think of it. They still look wierd, but I can accept them.

I think the Watcher in the Water looks a little like "Warhammer-stuff", but the rest is very cool

I sort of like that one. During the early production of the LOTR Movie PJ decided he did not want the wolfs to look like D&D wolfs. That was too bad for me because the drawings looked like the old pre Warhammer wolfs from Chronicle.

Actually I do recall some speculation by Gandalf in LotR about how the watcher got there, and that he must have either crawled up out of the deep, or even came up from the ocean. So maybe that's the rationale for having legs.

Crud, nothings ever cheap on ebay in America. It's either stuff I don't want or stuff I can't pay for.

an octopus can already walk. On land. Without actual legs. No matter how fantasy this world is, there was no need nor reason to give him legs.

Are you after anything in particular mate? There are load of (7-8) cheap Mumakil on the UK Ebay site if you are interested in them.

You should be able to get one for under £20 if you get lucky 8)

It's a fanatsy world, they have spiders that are the size of hippos. The spiders can't exist in the real world, so why can't there be something in a fantasy world that actually makes sense, but doesn't have a real world counterpart?
And scratch what I said a couple comments ago, ebay IS dirt cheap right now!

I'm not interested in paying a lot for shipping and having to wait a month for them to get to my house. I don't think many UK sellers even ship to the US. Thanks anyways.
