I hate to be the killjoy, but I'd say the odds are pretty good that the big change they were talking about is this:
no more metals

These new Finecast miniatures, do we know if they are new sculpts? Couldn't fine much on the net about this....

If there is new plastic coming out there was a rumour a while back of a multi part Mountain Giant, though was just a rumour.....

I wonder :?: :?:

no, finecast is the resin/plastic polymer they're casting stuff up in now instead of metal. same moulds.

So, it wasn't LotR specific?

I could've told you about Finecast - opens up on the 23rd of May, I believe...

Since they are going to get rid of the metals, and start making the resins and these are the resins that will be on sale, are we then not able to buy eg. Erkenbrand for some time?? That would be an ever bigger dissapointment :(

The assumption is that various metal figs will make the transition to finecast as their stock of the metal ones run out. So...

Metal fig is in stock and for sale
supplies of it run low
GW pulls the fig from the store
a few weeks later a finecast version of the same fig becomes available (at a higher price)

so SOME metal figs should stay available for a while but that availability is going to be very hit or miss and stuff that is available one day may not be the next with no warning.

Probably safe to say that anything that is already not available is going to stay that way until a finecast version gets done.

All that is pure speculation and guesswork however.

If you don't mind metal, and can afford a big purchase, I would.

Unfortunately I CAN'T afford a big purchase right now.

Yeah...I'm getting a couple metals that I really want to ensure are in my Rohan and Harad forces but that's it. After that I'll probably wait a few more months and start looking for people unloading used forces on ebay.

I'm just dumbfounded by that. Those prices are stupid for plastics.

Im slightly confused... they are only replacing metal with resin right? Not plastic with resin. Then why are they increasing plastic prices as well as the metal (which also shouldnt rise in price)

Interesting. Assuming those values are correct then it looks like they are not adjusting Cav units at this time (for LotR at least). I guess they realize they'll make more money bumping up the infantry for WotR army building. Then they'll probably "catch up" the mounted models with another 10% - 15% increase.

It all torques me off though. GW's primary demographic (counting 40k, WH, etc.) is probably in the late teens to early twenties. How can they expect to keep attracting new players and retaining existing ones with pricing a hobby up by 20% across the board. I have a very well paying tech job at a secure company I've been with for over 10 years. We have three kids, one of which has extra needs and the expenses that go with that. "Fun" expenses in our lifestyle are minimal by comparison to other people I know...we haven't had cable tv for a couple years, get takeout maybe 1/month, might see 2 movies per year at the most, only buy a couple more than that (generally $15 or less), don't do itunes/netflix/whatever, phone+internet are covered by my company (but they can call on me 24/365), use our local library a lot. So we probably spend less on such things in a year than some families our size spend in a month. This is my only hobby that has any real cost and already their price has had me cutting back this year. Another 20% on plastics as well as the stupid move to "finecraft" (costing more than the metals) is going to hurt me. I can't imagine others are not impacted worse than me.

They're going to continue to make it harder to get into the hobby and harder to stay in it. Yes they have the right to raise prices to account for increased costs, but a 20% jump is just gouging. :x :(
