Thanks. The Eowyn model was really nice to paint. I think it's representative of what I like about the lotr range with its simple design and more realistic proportions.

I'm painting Theoden again, this time for a Christmas present.

I feel as though I should do something with the scabbard as it looks so plain in comparison to the rest of the model.

Easy thing to do is painting some runes on the scabbard.
Otherwise u should try to put those curly lines on it like they use in most of those rohan decorations.
Maybe u should add a red ribbon on his sword :)

I should leave it as it is, it looks very good and I think t doesn't need more decoration.

I decided to paint the scabbard a darker colour so that it wouldn't draw the eye as I didn't have any confidence in my freehand ability. Though I don't know why Theoden is carrying the scabbard since it's clearly too small for his sword...

Overall I'm very pleased with how this model turned out and it's certainly one of my better paint jobs.

Somewhat predictably I didn't do any painting in December. With the new year came an increased desire to complete my army and so I've added twelve more cavalry to leave only six until I have finished (and can begin on my Gondor army).

They're coming along very nice, one thing you should work on is taking pics ;). You've got good lighting as far as I see just aim it correctly and use some background ;)

Eowyn's face is lovely mate ;) Though I would have given more contrast to that dress ;)

Unfortunately, the pictures are as good as I can manage at the moment. I might borrow my mum's camera over the weekend to take some better ones. And I agree with you on Eowyn the dress does need some more work as it's looking a bit plain. At the time I used the model as practice for my layering technique but I shall be revisiting her to add more detail.

In the meantime I have been working on one of my Christmas gifts:

A slight mishap and it's time to find my hand drill...

The cloak is proving rather difficult to highlight. I might have to experiment a little with some other figures to get the desired look and failing that change the colour scheme.

Great looking Glorfindel so far, shame about the accident :P

The metallics and the blue look particularly good.

Lovely work here!
Theoden is ace! Love the armour and his face!
The Rohirrim look great! I wish I had all my riders like that (dunno why, but I really hate painting the common Rohan warriors...probably cause I have too much of them) !

Love your metallics on Glorfindel!!

Looking forward to see more! :D

Ha, yeah, I made the mistake of basecoating the horses of my three boxes of riders all together. That was in April 2009...

And the final six will have to wait even longer because I've already started on my Minis Tirith/Pelennor Fields themed collection. This time around I'm painting lots of different figures to hopefully prevent painting burnout. It's not proper army as such; the theme is to make it more interesting and satisfying to work on.

First up are some knights of Dol Amroth. I bought these ugly dudes about five years ago for some forgotten reason. But they were quite enjoyable to paint in a challenging way. My aim is to really develop my painting skills over the coming year and metals and whites are an area of weakness.

Nicely painted. I think swan knights are great models to paint. Shame foot ones only come in blisters

They look great!

I have 20 of those to paint and I'll be very happy if they turn out anywhere near that good. Good job on the metallics and faces. The white is neatly done too.

Well I wouldn't paint that many to such a standard either. The white cloth parts alone had about 20 layers of paint.

Yeah, painting something white can be quite painful, even over white/grey primer.

Link to a pic of thranduil I did, his white staff has at least 10 layers of white.
