Some serious stuff going on here! I have to say that's gotta be in my top 5 painted models. Though of entering it in a painting competition? I'm sure you'd smash any opponents off with that model.

So, I was desperatelly in need of some paints and so went to visit some stores to get them. I managed to get some, but not all of the ones I need, like Devlan Mud washes (wich I'll be needing in bucket loads for the Prancing Pony, it seems). Will have to order those online instead. blah

Anyway, I ended up buying this 54mm mini too, from Andrea, sorta kinda based on Kingdom of Heaven, Balian, of Ibelin.
Image
Comes in a nice box, with the parts protected inside a layer of foam. The really tiny bits com inside two sealed baggies. As all Andrea stuff, theres also the booklet with a 101 generic painting tutorial and mandatory list of products you can buy from the company and a quality control token. The box has a list of suggested bases and paints...
The model loos like really nice stuff, virtually free of mould lines, and all the parts seem to fit nicelly without any particular issues. The helmet straps are two separate bits, wich will need to be glued to it, and then to the hand. Seems a bit tricky, due to the tiny size.
Here's how it looks (minus bits) with a real quick blutac dry fit.

To continue soon, hopefully. ;)

Ooooh, lovely!
Looking forward seeing you doing this one mate!
Since GW have tricked collectors such as myself, I find more and more interest in other companies such as these.
Go on, start! :D

Well, Andrea is one of the biggest miniature makers in the market so they do have quite a lot of stuff, with several new releases per month.
This one is part of their Medieval Knights series... in that period, pretty much anything goes: crusaders, samurai, vikings,... Some are clearly inspired in movies or paintings, like Balian, but theres lots in there.

They make lots of other stuff though, ranging from romans to ww2, from fantasy to sci-fi, in several scales. Nothing like having a look on Andrea miniatures site and check.

Anyway, did a bit of work on it. Other than the whites and the belts, its really just basecoats and getting all the parts glued in. Like expected, the helmet straps were not easy.

Wow, I like it. Is it hard to paint a straight edge between the colors?

Well, straight lines are not that hard, as long as you are carefull and take your time. Its just a matter of, gradually, fix all the imperfections. Now, actual freehand work is much harder, and i'm not particularly great at it.

Anyway, I managed to do quite a bit of hobby this weekend. It has been a while since I had some painting sessions like this. Pretty much finished Balian, base and all, and also prepared some other minis I wanted to repaint. Here's how the mini turned out... Just minor stuff to do now, like in the hair and maybe add some powders. Still undecided if I want to do some more crosses in the tunic... probably not.

Quite happy with the way it turned out... hope you like it!

Fantastic work, Mac. I painted up a 54mm Qndrea mini a couple years back, and it was fun fora change of pace. Your freehand crosses look great as-is. I wouldn't worry about adding more.

Thanks guys! I really liked painting that one. I think its a great sculpt, very elegant. There's also a bigger version of it.

Anyway, moving on. Some of the old timers might actually remember this next one. I started it years ago, but for some reason, i never finished it (this actually used to happen a lot to me). Today I had some free time and picked it up and started working on it again. Its Urmuth, Scars of War. Also a 54mm miniature from Andrea. Funny enough, its from the same sculptor as Balian.

Here's how it is... bad pictures though. Its not as yellow in real life.

wOOt! I'm a happy man!

Just got a pack in the mail today, with plenty of stuff to keep me entertained for months!

http://s665.photobucket.com/albums/vv13 ... =slideshow

Funny how the most expensive mini in there is also the smallest. Managed to get a pretty nice deal with all the Enigma minis as the store was having huge discounts on them (thats why I got so many). Most of them are 32mm, but they are all in the big side of things. Theres also two 54mm ones, including a really huge Sumothay. The metal included on that mini alone is probably enough to build me a small tank!

Luke Skywalker is from Knight Models and its awesome. Simple, but awesome.
