I've finally gotten round to updating this thread so enjoy. All C&C welcome (that means you as well Josh).

Sword Brethren Tellios

ImageImage<a href="http://s847.photobucket.com/albums/ab31/Dragon_XDS/?action=view&current=SwordBrethren.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab31/Dragon_XDS/SwordBrethren.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The Sword Brethren with Power Fist was painted by my younger brother. I'm quite proud of him (possibly because he listned to my advice for a change). Below are some more Marines he painted up, including his first attempt at OSL.

Image

Castellan Helo (he is still a big WiP, and he only has the base colours down)

ImageImage

The Combi-Melta is a conversion, melta gun barrel glued onto Black Templar bolter with hand of bolter glued onto bolt pistol arm.

Marshal

ImageImage

Another converted model. I attached a spare Tyranid Warrior head on a spike to the banner. The head is from the Land Raider Crusader Sprue.

The Land Raider Crusader (very little done, lights base coated and Templar stuff added)

Image

And now the Tyranids...

My Objective Markers.

Genestealer bursting out the ground. Used to represent where my Trygon Deep Sriked so that I can place models from reserve around it.

Image

Spore Chimney

Image

Scenic Ripper Base

ImageImage

The Tyranid Prime (with converted boneswords)

ImageImage

And the rest...

Fisrt of all size of pics...make them smaller for sake of forum 640x480 will suffice.

Second -> focus you're taking photos to close to a mini.

Finally painting. Try some shades and highlights, now most of your minis look flat. I see you have some backlog and hence the temptation to paint everything quick ;) Resist it! :D

I must say I'm waiting for your interpretation of Land Raider it's weaponry is true definition of overkill :D

Cheers ;)

I'll offer the same criticism as Wiktor. I think a wash of Devlan Mud on the cloth and Ogryn Flesh on the skin might add significant shading. However, assembly on all of them looks good...I like the Marshal. :yay:

Okay, I'll make the pictures smaller in the future. Don't worry, I'm not tempted to finish everything quickly, they still are WiP in my eyes (my brother says they are finished and that I should leave them alone but I disagree) so I'll add highlights to the cloth and hard-edge the armour. The 6 sets of Twin linked Storm Bolters are ultimate overkill. I drilled the holes for all twelve bolter barrels. As for focus should I try to keep my minatures at the same distance as my Castellan and Marshal?

I'll buy some Ogyrn Flesh and some Devlan Mud at the weekend and wash the skin as you recomended. Thanks for the compliment on the Marshal, although personally I prefer the Castellan as I put more effort into posing him, converting him and converting the Combi-Melta.
I didn't assemble the Trygon Prime, I bought it second hand off of a friend for half the retail price. I prefer having the Mawloc tail than the Tyranid Prime tail on it.

A small update. I have finally finished the Castellan I agreed to paint for my brother. I have had less time for painting because of exams, but I also managed to paint a Chaos Sorcerer which is a converted DA vet with sorcerer backpack, pegasus wings and a Black Templar Power Axe (Force Weapon). I am very happy right now because it is currently on display in my local GW, I'll bring my camera to the shop when I go tomorrow so I can get some piccies.

Castellan Helo on the garden table:

I wasn't very fond of my old banner and it has been taken off and put in my bitz box, so I tried some detailed freehand for the first time and peronally I prefer the crisper more refined heraldry to the simplistic Templar Cross. The CSM helmet was added after I (considering this is my brothers army, I have played more matches with it than he has, and I play using my 'nids army as well) used him to slay an Obliterator, two Aspiring Champions and several CSM in a 1000pt battle against a friend of mine.

That's all for now but if the weather stays bright and sunny, I'll try to get some more pictures and continue painting more minis.

As always, C&C welcome on my Castellan.

Yours

Cal.

Excellent improvement on the painting. Banner looks great, some good freehand--only why does it say "hello?" You've gotten good clean coverage on the white, which is a PITA to do in my experience.

Keep up the good work 8)

Oh, It's supposed to be the name of the Castellan "Helo". I took the name from the 'New' Battlestar Galactica, it's the name of one of the shows main characters.

Oh, thanks for the compliments as always. I have a question for you, how much do you charge for commisions? say for example a Techmarine painted up to the standards of my Fallen Angel or Castellan (I'll Post Pics). After seeing my Castellan painted and my Fallen Angel in the GW cabinet, one of my little brothers friend now is offering to pay me to paint his one. I know the kid pretty well and I have been teaching him painting tips recently. So your thoughts on the matter would be most welcome. And on top of that some other local gamers would also like me to paint something of theirs.

Yeah, it is time consuming but if you have another thing to paint you can paint it while the layers dry. The banner ended up with 10 layers of watered down Skull White, and the shoulder pads were, 1 layer of Codex Grey, 1 layer of Fortress Grey, 3 layers of skull white.

Yours

Cal

P.S. I have been wanting to paint a Techmarine for quite some time anyway (but I am too cheap to buy the model just to paint it) so I may end up painting it for free if I can't think of a price, I was offered £5 to paint it by the owner of the model.

Good job! I like the feel of the figure. Are those wings from the plastic Pegasus?

Yup, they are pegasus wings and the only part of the model I actually payed money for, the DA vet. and the Sorcerer Backpack where given to me by some friends of mine. As a result I only spent £4 to convert the model. :-D

Josh, if you want to see more pics, you can find them on dakka dakka in my gallery. My username is Gathering Storm. :)

Like all good things, my blogs will never really die. Sure, I may forget about them for a couple of months, maybe a year, but in the end they just want to keep coming back. Anyway, with my increased interest in 40k I've been quite a busy bee. So, for your amusement, here are some of my latest works from the silly little sci-fi game.

A couple of Daemon Princes of Tzeentch

Some little Daemons

And a Space Marine, Pre-Heresy Word Bearer, to be precise.

That's all from me from the land of 40k, Cal

P.S. Can a mod please change the title of this, as the first 7 pages of this blog were lost during the site's revamping after it's sabotage last year. Since I no longer have access to the first post I can't change it to my preferred title of 40k Musings (as I neither play Templars or Tyranids anymore).

Hey TDoM.

I've tried to rename the topic title to your new desired title however it didn't work, so I did some research and apparantly we cannot rename the titles of topics that were created before the hacking last year as we are now using a different version of phpBB and it won't allow us. So if you want a new title for the thread, I'm afraid you're going to have to create a completely new one.
