I dont think it would be a bad thing for GW to do plastics Hobbits. After all it gives the gamer more choces dosn't it! and another thing for the collectors to buy.

The problem is that not enough people would be likely to buy them. IIRC it costs £60,000+ for GW to lay down a new sliding core injection mould, and with something as niche as hobbits they'd be hard pressed to sell enough to make it back (even with the prices the way they are)

They can sink money into WH40k plastic kits like there was no tomorrow because they ALWAYS turn a profit, but nowhere near as many people buy LotR models, nor in as great a quantity, so they're not as comfortable risking the heavy outlay in case it backfires on them.

They're also pretty safe with WHFB plastic kits, as WHFB armies are huge (high sales!) and all the races have a very large and loyal fanbase. Even so, the Orc, Empire and High Elf plastic character sets struggled and they very nearly lost money on them which is why they stopped making them (note that Vampires, Daemons, Chaos and Dark Elves all got metal characters instead) so they still have to be more careful than with 40k.

Unfortunately there just aren't enough of us - and most of us don't buy enough stuff - for GW to treat us as well as they do our counterparts. WHFB and WH40k are black voids of despair that devour the finances of all and sundry, LotR just isn't. We would have been thrown in the specialist games dungeon and left to die years ago if GW weren't contractually obligated to keep LotR as a core game. ;)

yet they find money to make products which are sold cheaper and in bigger quantities elsewhere. Yes, i am talking about modelling sand, the new water pot, new palette and the pva glue.

Yeah, but shocking numbers of people buy those and it costs GW very little to churn them out. The sand and PVA (and the containers the come in) are bought wholesale for pittance and all GW does is stick a logo and a price tag on them.

Actually, speaking of which, they changed suppliers for their sand recently and the new stuff is bloody awful.

I saw the tub of supposed sand which is more like lots of small stones, which were expensive. Is the new stuff finer, or is it more like merchant sand - which i use- which has lots of small stones amongst the sand.

The old one was pretty good, although you had to pick out the stones and chunks of rock if you didn't want them sticking to your base in random places. The sand itself gave a nice texture. The new one is coarse, cheap-looking pale gritty stuff with chunks of god knows what, it yields an uneven texture and doesn't adhere very well.

Actully I think there is plenty of players who like to have a hobbit army!

If you want a big hobbit army, you must pay a lot, so some players dont want to play hobbits by that reason!

It was the same problem with Galadrim before!

Plastic hobbits would not be a bad idea for GW, I think.
That is my opinion!

I have a large Hobbit force, larger than any I have seen, and I would still like more! :D

But they won't be plastic, as GW seems to slowly killing of anything Tolkien related anyway. Now, we might see Hobbits in Space Marine Armour, MkIX.... :rofl:

Large hobbit armies would be a problem for the games developers however. A large hobbit army would struggle, against Uruk hai with high Defence and High Strength. The lack/weakness of elites would also make the forces fairly unbalanced.

Not really, since you can have heroes like aragorn and gandalf, and hobbit archers are not to be sniffed at.

Just this week I saw a 350 point Hobbit force stomp a all-bezerker army and only lose 6 models.

I did played a 300 points battle with hobbits against a Uruk-hai force. I only lost one dunedain and one Hobbit in that game. all left on the evil side was the uruk-hai captain(lost all might and fate) and one warrior with crossbow. I hope they come in plastic but i think they never will.

anyway gw aint making hobbits :(

i could beat my brother with a hobbit army but he's not very good
only reason hobbits could win is outnumbering, also good shooting aswell

Lets say this slowly (ie with lots of space)

Throwing Stones Strength 1

Every hobbit has stones, therefore 3+ to hit even if it is 6's or 6/4s to wound you have 2+ hobbits to every man they fight.

Hobbits are definately a win win army with aragorn. gandalf, dunedain and stones, hobbit archers AND loads of cheap might INCLUDING bill the pony who is a banner!
