The Hobbit Movie Postponed

Posted: 19 Dec 2008 02:57 AM CST

Several sources are reporting part 1 of The Hobbit movie has been postponed by at least a year.

The Shooting of ‘The Hobbit’, which was planned to begin in New Zealand this winter, has been postponed until 2010 - with the release date pushed back to 2012.

However, as yet the cause for the delay is unknown.

Originally the first Hobbit movie was set for a 2011 Christmas release with part 2 the following Christmas.

Empire magazine is having a Hobbit special for March.
It features exclusive interviews with director, info on Jackson and the plot of the second movie.

Here's a snipett of an update I read on a local news website.....

'Peter Jackson has confirmed that The Hobbit, to be shot in Wellington next year, will be one continuous movie in two parts and not two self-contained films.'

'Del Toro told Empire the two-part Hobbit movie would expand on two areas that were only alluded to in the book - wizard Gandalf's visits to arch-villain Sauron's stronghold in Mirkwood forest and the wizard's involvement in the White Council'

Keep it coming! The main story of the Hobbit is strong, and having some additional depth/background will be interesting.

Great news! Instead of intervals without Gandalf, what could be better than a continuous story with even more characters!

I do hope Christopher Lee joins in. The White council would no be the same without him.

It's just unfortunate that he doesn't want to go back to NZ because he feels too old now...

Perhaps they could film his parts in the UK (I think he lives here? Right?).

I wish I had the money to have a 'man cave', I'll probably just have to settle for a 'man room' instead. :)

Yes, imagine having your own house dedicated to your own hobbies, be pretty sweet. I think a man room is the most us mortals can hope for.
